What color is the Mother of the bride supposed to wear?

Kayla & Thomas, on April 13, 2011 at 8:46 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11

Our wedding colors are navy blue and yellow. The bridesmaids will all be wearing matching yellow dresses (not too bright but not light yellow either). My mom is not overweight but she is not super thin either and has a larger bust. I am trying to find something that she may like and have not idea what to look for. Any help would be appreciated!

She can wear any of the various shades of navy and yellow. You have a wide range to choose from.

I found a few dresses that I kind of liked (not necessarily in the colors they are shown in). It is a May wedding so it will be kind of hot and I was thinking short may be best so she is burning up??

Well my Mom is wearing a rose colored dress ... my bms are in wine dresses ... I just asked her to pick a color that compliments the wedding colors of ivory, wine and champagne and touches of light pink ... My FMIL however is wearing a silvery dress ... have her wear whatever she's comfortable in ... mothers do not need to match the wedding party in fact I've heard it's better if they don't ... I'd say whatever your mom feels beautiful in then she should wear it Smiley smile

My mom is not matching. My BM's are in royal blue and my mom will be in a really pretty purple the best way i can think to describe it is eggplant purple, its not bright very soft but pretty. I did read that they should not be in White - for obvious reasons. Black - as if they are mourning. And Red because it is an attention grabber and takes away from the bride. Although I think she can wear any color that makes her and you comfortable.

My dress is ivory, my bm dresses are wine, and my mom is wearing and ivory top and a grape color skirt. She didn't want to match or be close to the bm colors. Yet the grape will match into the fall theme some or thats what I told her because she liked the grape color.

A dress that you can wear a normal bra with is always a good thing.

It is not always the easiest to find a good strapless bra, and if she has a bigger chest and a smaller waist, sometimes you need to buy up a size to fit the girls, but will need lots of alterations to bring in the waist.

I like your first example for those reasons. Shades of yellow, navy or maybe pink?

Our colors are black, silver, and white. My mom will be wearing a champagne colored dress, not sure what FMIL is wearing yet.

Whatever the heck she wants. I don't see any reason to match everyone. The wedding party is one thing but the parents don't need to match

Here's some guidelines on the color: I would say generally:

    - No Black (unless it's part of the wedding colors)

    - No Red ( stands out too much )

    - No White ( obvious reasons!)

    Here's some tips detailing above : http://bit.ly/1NE5W7A
