What city to put on my Save the Date Card?

Niven, on September 16, 2015 at 8:53 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 15

Hello,

I'm new to this website. I'm working on the wording of my Save the Date cards and invitations and I'm wondering about something seemingly basic! I'm getting married in Covington KY, just across the river from Cincinnati, Ohio. Many of my friends and family are expecting to come to Cincinnati for the wedding, but will likely be confused to see Covington listed. How would you word the location for the Save the Date Cards?

I would put exactly where the wedding will be, they can google Covington if they're confused.

Covington. You want it to list the city where the venue is located.

I agree that you need to list the city where the event will be taking place. But if you're really worried, you could use one of those STD designs that has a cute map with illustrations of all the stuff around, and you could show the venue being in Covington and the hotels being in Cincinnati, etc. But I think people will just Google it and figure it out.

We got married in Eureka, MO which is basically St. Louis. We just listed Eureka. Everyone got where they needed to be

Put the location where you'll be married - people won't be confused long... they'll hop on their phone or computer, google it and say "Oh - okay." and move on Smiley smile

Put the city in which the wedding will take place: Covington.

I'm sort of struggling with the same issue. We're having our ceremony and reception in two different cities, but they're both in Los Angeles County. Do I put Los Angeles? the ceremony site? reception site?

Following. I have the same question as Sunni. The ceremony and reception venues are about 25 minutes apart.

I agree with everyone, put the specific location of the wedding (in this case, Covington, KY).

Sunni & theprettysweetlife - I think you have 3 choices, and space on the Save The Date may be the deciding factor:

    1) omit the location altogether, and list just the date.

    2) Put the location of the ceremony, then include a reception card with the invitation specifying the location of the reception.

    3) Put both locations on the Save The Date (ceremony to be held in ______; reception to be held in _______)

Personally, I would either omit the location, or list the ceremony location.

Thanks for the suggestions! However, because the majority of guests live on the east coast and the wedding will be in California, I feel I need to put the location. I think I'll just stick with the ceremony location.

I actually didn't put a city on mine. I didn't realize until after I stamped them. I did mine off a template from magnet street and the city wasn't listed in the template. I did have my website info on there and that has all the info. No one has questioned where it is. So I don't think it's the most crucial thing.

I'd put Covington. Thats like me putting Los Angeles on my STD (since everyone knows L.A.) But in reality its in Placentia. A city people probably dont know. But its 30-40 minutes away. Big difference.

ETA: I send my STD with the city listed and everyone keeps asking me where we are getting married. Either the city wasnt enough or they didnt read the STD haha

You should put Convington, KY. Be sure to include the state so guests are clear that it isn't in Ohio.

Because I love etiquette books I read them all the time. The website the new Emily Post states that you should put the city in which the ceremony is taking place followed by your wedding website which will have the details of your reception (provided that you already have that listed on the website) The save the dates are meant to be just that a quick reminder of a date you don't have to have tons of specifics mostly just to help people plan for travel.
