What can my brother do for the wedding?

Cathasach, on November 30, 2009 at 10:39 PM Posted in Planning 0 10

So the FH and I have been trying to figure out something special for my brother to do for the wedding. My lil sis (14) is a BM and my baby sis (10) is a flower girl doubling as a ring barer. I would like my brother (18) to feel like he is more part of the wedding besides being an usher. Nothing against ushers, I just want him to feel more special than that and I'm blank!

Here's some info:

He plays guitar but is still learning.

Maybe a reading/poem of some sort?

He's also very artistic/creative.

Anyway... suggestions needed and very much welcomed!

Thanks all!

He could design your programs and also hand them out he could make your guest book and be the guest book attendant

The guest book idea might work. Someone is already doing the programs as a wedding gift.

Since he's creative, maybe he can create a special video dedicated to the two of you. It can be played before your ceremony as guests are being seated (also a good way to stall for time if you're running late) or it can be played during your reception. He can also do a special toast during the reception. Have you asked him how he'd like to be involved?

I haven't talked to him yet. Just wanted to get some ideas rolling so I could suggest a few things and maybe we could collaborate one something.

My brother was going to give me away! I want my son to do it now!

Maybe he can escort you half way down the aisle.

Light one of the candles for your unity candle.

Ask him to write you a song and you walk in off the song while he plays it on his guitar

    or either

the existing song once they pronouce you husband and wife.

This can even work at the reception.

FH and I first dance song is a song he wrote me five years ago when we wasn't even together but was just friends. (we have a past history).

Hope this was a little helpful to you. Let us know what you decide!

If he's very artistic he could monogram your aisle runner for you. you could also have him roll out the runner before you walk down the aisle. even though he is still learning his instrument, i think there's enough time for him to learn a song to play for the ceremony. how special would it be for him to play while you walk down the aisle!!!

Poetry will be the way to go. It will give him time to write something very meaningful from the heartSmiley smile

You could also make him a groomsman, if your FI is cool with that

These are great ideas! We did consider the GM idea but because FH brother can't be a GM b/c he might not be able to be at the wedding (depending on his Army deployment) we both felt it wouldn't be right or fair to have my brother as a GM.

Maybe he could even monogram our guest book! And put the poem (if he were to write one) on the inner part of the cover! Oh yay! Loving the ideas flowing!

My brother is designing a motif for our invitations and is thrilled that I asked him. I am sure that whatever you ask your brother to do he will enjoy being made a part of your special day.

My vote is for allowing him to toast at the reception too.
