What are your dress inspirations?

I'm not sure what I'm going to wear. I keep changing my mind. I'm having a small wedding, under 40 people. I think I look good in an A-Line dress.

Did you go out with an idea in mind or did you just start trying things on? What do you guys think of something fun and colorful? Or a pants suit vs dress? How did you decide what you wanted to wear?

It helps to decide what will fit with the venue you have. Also determine some things that might be a problem, such as getting too tight of a dress that does not let you dance or even sit. It then helps to know stuff you might not like so much -- like people who don't want a train or bustle or sleeves. One bride was asking alternatives to an overly feminine style gown. She instead was considering a white skirt suit to preserve some of the bridal theme.

So just check out some ideas that seem good but be okay to be surprised if there is something different than you planned. If the A-line dress fits your image, that keeps your decision making simpler.

I had a few inspiration pictures, but a big part of my plan was to try things on and see what looked good *on me*. That’s not always the same thing as what I like! I found a bridal salon I just loved that talked to me beforehand about my likes and dislikes so they could start narrowing down choices.

I love fun and colorful! During this wedding planning journey I've been rather turned off by the classic bridal gowns and their shops. Something less special about picking a dress off a rack that thousands of women will wear in the same season as me. Also hate those little flesh colored pieces that mask deep cleavage, as practical as it may seem lol! All in all it feels way overpriced and homogenized, and that's just not for me.

For what it's worth, I'm putting together a custom look off Etsy, inspired by the night sky: blue to white ombre tulle pieces, dressed with white pearls. Making my own Juliet cap veil. Sizing up slightly and hiring someone for alterations. I'm treating this day as the day that I can wear whatever I want, and pull out all the stops to feel as uniquely beautiful as possible. And for me, that means coloring outside the lines.

I don't profess to say this is the only way to do it, it's just how I approach my outfit. And I hope you do the same, for you. Don't hold back, be comfortable in your skin and proud of how you look. It's your moment, enjoy it. Smiley heart

I am having a small wedding as well, 35 people. I also had a few inspirational pictures before going to a bridal boutique. My dress is the total opposite of the pictures. Once I tried my dress on, a feeling came over me. I can't explain it, but I knew it was my dress. I have had it for three months now and I began to doubt that I had chosen the right dress. The seamstress text me to confirm my appointment for my fitting and when I saw my dress I feel in love with it again. When you try on your dress/pants you will know it's the one for you.

Thank you! I recently found my dress and I agree! I just decided to do as you said and tried on a bunch of different styles. It's hard to know what it looks like on a hanger.

I totally get what you mean! I also didn't want the same as other people and wanted something unique or edgy. I appreciate your recommendations!

Thanks! Yes. I was surprised. I recently found my dress which happened to be the first one I tired. But I decided to try on others and look at other options. But kept thinking of the first one.
