What are you paying for hair and makeup?

Hannah, on September 29, 2019 at 1:28 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 24
So I totally realize this is largely influenced by location. However I have seen a wide range just in my area. I am crazy picky when it comes to hair so I definitely see a huge difference in skill between the girl who quoted me $65 for day of and $65 trial vs the girl who quoted me $175 (trial included). I will end up paying my hair girl $250 + tip after the travel fee. And while I feel that’s outrageous, I also feel it’s worth it to be confident my hair will be exactly what I want it to be. Also she’s traveling almost an hour to me. So totally worth it.

Makeup has me thrown though. I used to do hair professionally so I know at least a little bit about what’s good and what’s not. Makeup is a totally different story. I have a local girl quoting me $45 (including travel and fake lashes) and her stuff is good. Then I have another girl in mind that it $55 according to her site but I don’t know what that includes or what her travel fee is. Her stuff is amazing. But I can’t decide if the difference is worth the (probably) doubled price when I’m already paying a lot for hair. Thoughts?

What are you paying for each? And what determined your decision? Needing to save money? Wanting to look flawless?

I paid $125 for makeup and $150 for hair not including trial. That was the standard for my area. Bridesmaids were $90 for each service. I booked them because my wedding planner worked with them often and I knew they did good work and could handle my large bridal party.

Lol wow those are good prices where I’m located. For hair I’ll probably end up paying close to $400 mainly because I’m getting extensions and that’s a lot and I want my hair colored. If it wasn’t for those two it would be around $100 though maybe cheaper. Makeup I’ll probably pay between $60-$100. I think you should go with who you’re the most comfortable with. There are people that are cheaper but I’m not as confident with their work so I’m going with who I’m the most comfortable with. Trust your gut hun

I’ve honestly never heard of prices that cheap! I do live in California though. But I’m in a wedding in Fort Worth TX next weekend and am paying $100 for makeup.

Oh yeah I have my regular color appointment outside of that so there’s another $120.🤣 I’m not sure about extensions yet. If I need them I guess I’ll buy them. Mine is pretty long but not thick.😩 that was the exact determining factor for my hair though - I wanted to be confident with what they could do. My makeup is where I just can’t decide. The cheaper girls stuff looks great in pictures and is definitely worlds better than I can do myself. But the more expensive girl is like magazine perfect and I can’t decide if I care that much.

We live in a small town in northwest Florida near Pensacola. The girl she is using is from our small town hair salon and really doesn’t do many weddings. The girl I’m using is from
pensacola (the biggest city near us) and she specializes in weddings so I guess that’s where the price difference comes from.

For makeup, I'm paying $300 (includes a trial) just for myself. Bridesmaids are $85 each. The MUA I hired is considered a "luxury" end artist, and is much more than I initially planned on spending. However, I love makeup and I want to do everything I can to look good in photos all day. FH and I don't take a ton of pictures together, so I want these to really count.

(I'm still in the process of booking hair, but it looks like it'll be $190 for me--including a trial--and $75 per bridesmaid.)

Initially, I wanted to just do a salon where they offered both hair and makeup, but the more I looked, the more it seemed like they clearly excelled in one area over another, so I decided to go for separate artists.

I got what I think is a pretty good deal. $75/hair & $75/makeup, with a guarantee of 10 girls for each. The beauty team is one of the best in my area and I booked 13 months out.

So we are on the hook for $1,500, which I’ve added to my budget bc I want to pay for my bridal party + moms.

I went to a salon without an appointment because I went right when they opened and it was $40 for hair.

That’s a good point. We don’t take a ton of pictures either so maybe it’s worth it to go with the high end artist. That’s definitely how I felt about my hair. I wanted it to be perfect! I’m glad to see the prices I’m seeing aren’t totally crazy.

That’s so nice of you! All my girls would prefer to just do their own and we couldn’t swing paying for everyone. But then again, we only had a year engagement so it wasn’t something that was made priority.

$60 trial, $150 day of for hair and makeup. I got a second trial for free because I didn’t like the first one. Still not totally happy with it so I’ll ask them to use my own foundation and lashes. They were the only place that would come to my location without a $600+ minimum. Coloring hair will be about $190 and my extensions were $160. So $560? I also spent quite a bit of money trying to buy my own makeup to see if I could do it myself. I’m in San Diego.

Lol. Now remember MUA’s sometimes use filters and editing apps so I would ask around or try both to determine. Also do you want magazine perfection or just a good face?

I’m glad you said this! I almost decided to do my makeup myself and was going to go buy stuff to do it with. But honestly, I’d probably spend almost as much (maybe more) buying products that I don’t know how to use. I’m mediocre at best when it comes to makeup and even though I can make myself look decent, I don’t want to stress trying to make it perfect for the day of.

That’s true! And I really don’t know! That’s what I’m currently struggling with. Lol. The magazine perfect obviously is better. But the one that’s just good, would still photograph beautifully I think. So my main question is does it even make a difference? Like would anyone even pay close enough attention to my face to care?

    $45 hair extension application
    $35 airbrush makeup application
    $150 for each bridesmaid hair/makeup

I'm in Denver. I paid $140 per bridesmaid & mom for hair and makeup. I paid $240 for bridal hair and makeup. My trial was $80, each additional artist after 2 (I needed 4) was $200 and travel was $40. This was a "splurge" section of our budget for me.
