What are you doing for djs?

I’m not sure if I should do a dj Bc I seriously just want to make a playlist for the day and play that. But if I did that I would still need an emcee to make announcements

We had a playlist, because we were going for "garden party" versus "dance party" and our DOC made all the announcements for us.

We are doing a playlist (on my to do list still!). My fiancé is asking one of his groomsmen to be the MC.

You could totally DIY your music! And I wouldn’t even worry about an emcee. I would ask a friend or family member who are attending the wedding to do it. You could even have a couple of people switch off so they aren’t emcee the whole night!

This really depends on what you want your event to be. We knew we wanted a DJ because we wanted a huge dance party. The DJ is able to read the room and switch up music as they go to keep people on the dance floor. They also work with the coordinator to make sure things (like the cake cutting and spotlight dances) get done on time. If those things aren’t super important to you, I think a playlist can work.

I’ve been a guest a few times at weddings where the couple made a playlist and had someone push a button because they didn’t want a dj. Those didn’t turn out how the couples wanted because no one danced after the first dance. The music was great to listen to but you could not dance to it. And there was no option to switch to different music.

The weddings I’ve been to with djs, the floor always had someone dancing. If it wasn’t packed, there were 10 people minimum at all times. The dj does their job of reading the crowd and what they respond to that a preset playlist can’t. The djs we have seen as guests also only made one announcement: for the first dance to start. In our families/social circles, announcements of any kind beyond calling up the couple for the first dance is not a thing where we are. Because of that, people would be genuinely more confused by the dj/mc talking nonstop with announcements akin to Monday Night Football than to let everything flow naturally because they can see the events happening or the people involved that require their attention without adding cheese on top of it. Toasts also aren’t a thing in those crowds so the dj doesn’t get involved.
Talk to your dj and let them know specifically what you want and what you don’t. The MC is a know your crowd thing. Be very clear on what you want from them as well.

Initially i didn't want a dj and was just gonna do a playlist but since my venue didn't provide a sound system i had to rent one but i ended up getting a dj because it was a decent price especially compared to renting one
