What are the steps you took?

Kristina, on February 22, 2021 at 3:17 PM Posted in Planning 0 5

Hi all! I'm still in the early early stages of planning because we're trying to see when we'd be able to have around 50 people without worrying too much about COVID.

Right now, I'm just wondering what steps you took when getting married? Do you need to register/get paperwork at the courthouse to take to your actual wedding? Or do you get the license after the ceremony? Who signs the marriage certificate? How difficult is it to change your last name? I'm trying not to get lost in the small details so I can enjoy my engagement/marriage but I'm definitely a planner Smiley smile

Best advice is to contact the county clerk's office where you will be married. Each county has different rules - for example, in some your license is good for 60 days, in others it is only good for 30 days. They will also be able to clarify who needs to sign the marriage license; some states require witnesses, others do not. Here is a good summary from Wedding Wire, although it is kind of dated so I would still call your county clerk directly.

Stacey is a hard act to follow- well done Stacey and spot on!! We are in PA and we had to go to the courthouse within 30 days before our wedding. Keep in mind with covid you typically need an appointment. We completed online forms with our parents names, where you were born, etc. We also were sworn in to say what we submitted was true. We then left with our marriage certificate that I gave to the pastor a week before the wedding. We signed the marriage certificate along with the pastor the day of the wedding immediately after the ceremony. The pastor mailed it in and we received a copy in the mail for our records. Hope this helps ❤️

Thank you! I think I remember at my brother's wedding that they signed the certificate with the pastor right after the ceremony. It sounds like it's just a little communication with the county clerk and pastor beforehand to make sure it's all set Smiley smile
