I did a lot of diy to keep cost down. Mostly decorations, here are my centerpieces. This is not the final product but more like the general idea. I have some things to do like cover the green foam and stain the chests and there will be more dice in the chests.

Yup! I bought books from goodwill for about 50¢ a piece. Stained them with tea, and hot glued them together. Cheapest thing ever. And I had a ton of fun with my mom and little sisters for a weekend making hundreds of flowers!

Awesome! Very low cost too. Sounds like a great way to spend time with family and friends while working on the project. Thank you for sharing!
I’m personally doing DIY favors & DIY favors for seating (what table number they’ll be at). I’m very far out from my wedding date though so I cannot necessarily say how easy/time-consuming it will be, but I just wanted to put everything together myself to save some money and make them more meaningful on that day. We were going to put together mini mason jars of Old Bay (we’re from Maryland so this is a huge staple here that people make fun of us for 😂) with a little tag and a ribbon.

I love that you picked favors that are meaningful to the area that your wedding will be in! Are you writing the table assignments on the tags? Or will those be a separate project?

I was going to order an acrylic sign with the table numbers and names on it. I just figured people probably wouldn’t want to keep a favor with a table number on it, and would prefer to have just their name instead. So kinda similar to this picture but with names instead

I wanted to do this with names too. Where's the best place you've found to order these in bulk? I can't find them cheaper than $3 a piece and I don't want to spend that much on things that will probably be left behind

I haven't tried this personally, but you may be able to buy the pieces (blank) in bulk, and then either use stickers or if you know someone who has a Cricut or paint the names on? That might work out cheaper.
For my wedding, the only thing I DIY'd was the bridesmaids bouquets and my bouquet. I just spent the better half of a year gathering all the flowers we need from Dollar Tree, Hobby Lobby, Dollar General, etc.

From the picture you posted the other day, the bouquets look like they turned out beautiful!! I love how you color coordinated them. I can imagine that it was time consuming though. Do you recommend that future brides DIY their flowers? Or was it difficult to track down everything you needed?
A lot of people DIY centerpieces! I think that’s fine because you can do that ahead of time. I think what don’t recommend is cook things for the wedding just because it sounds like a lot of work and storage. That’s some thing that we did and I don’t recommend it. My husband really wanted a Boba bar so we did DIY. And i didn’t expect him to be mixing sugar and milk and stuff in his tux on the day of!

I agree with you - anything that can be done well ahead of time is a good candidate for DIY! If it's something that requires attention the week of the wedding (or even on the wedding day), it's probably not a good idea. The Boba bar sounds awesome!!
So the biggest thing people shouldn't DIY is something that a guest is going to consume, so food/dessert because you don't know how clean someone's kitchen is or that they've washed their hands properly. All standard food safety stuff.
Centerpieces, bouquets, and other décor can all be super fun to DIY, but you have to make sure that you've got the motivation and patience. Plus no expectation of bridesmaids/wedding party being required to help you.
I'm working on an icosahedron DIY (a hollow d20) as a centerpiece, and let me tell you it's easily the most frustrating thing I've done in my life.

Totally agree on not doing DIY catering!! In addition to the food safety rules, there's also the time component. Needing to keep food warm/cold, having to prepare it while you're trying to also get ready for the day, etc.
I think DIY is general can be frustrating sometimes! I attempted doing a DIY bouquet, but I quickly learned that I don't have the skills or the patience required, so we're going with a florist, lol. The centerpiece that you're working on sounds really cool! Do you have a picture of what it looks like?

We’re making them out of wooden dowel rods instead of metal. I’ve tried making them out of straws and fishing wire a couple of times only to end up losing my cool because the fishing wire got tangled beyond repair 😂 The plan is to put flowers inside and maybe hide some little dragon figurines in/on them too
