We've talked about silk/fake flowers. Has anyone used sola flowers?

Kaegurl, on December 6, 2013 at 2:54 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 25

They are wood flowers - I'm unsure of the texture they seem to sell a ton of them Etsy and are a cheaper and just as beautiful (personally) alternative than real flowers. I am also a fan of brooch bouquets, but I am liking these sola flowers better.

They also seem less fake looking than some silk flowers. Also, they fit my overall theme.

Anyone had any experiences with them or used them in their own wedding?

The first picture would be the exact one I'd like for my wedding ...

I'm not using Sola flowers, but mine are made out of birch wood shavings. I personally love them. Texture wise they don't feel like real flowers, but that's fine to me. They're probably my favorite wedding purchase so far.

There is a WW bride that ordered a bouquet, sorry don't remember her name. Hopefully she will reply. If not you might search for the thread. She had a link to her seller, she was thrilled with her.

I have to say I love them.

They have some at Joann Fabrics and Michaels if you want to fee the texture. I think they are beautiful I would use them but they don't fit our theme.

@FutureMrs.Gravely who are you using on Etsy?

@Sarah after Meredith's comment I think I do remember seeing them at Michaels or another craft store (just wasn't there for that at the time!). I think the texture is interesting, but they look more real than other fake flowers.

I ordered mine from Superior Craft Supply on Etsy. Bought wire stems ($0.97/pack) from Walmart, hot glued them on...and bouquets will be created soon! :-)

I used them! I bought them from Save-on-Crafts and made the bouquets and bouts out of them. They were on pain in the butt to make, but I really liked them, especially mine Smiley smile

@ Tiki67 and Ashleigh they are beautiful! You both made your own??? How? I don't think I have the patience or coordination. How long did it take?

I need instructions. How much did it cost you? The woman on Etsy can make mine 30 inches around, MOH's 22 inches, and a 10 inch flower girl bouquet for $235.

The sola flowers were maybe $70 and I'm not sure what I spent on the brooches for mine maybe $100. I took wire and made a stem for everyone and the hot glued the stems to them. And then I arrange them from long stems to short stems (I made different lengths) and started with the long ones in the middle and kept layer them until I got to the shortest stems.

It took hours upon hours. But I also made the ribbon roses and cut and glue the peacock feathers to stems.

But the ones you have pictured shouldn't take nearly as long.

I'm looking at save on crafts right now. I think I'd be too indecisive - there are soooo many options! What an amazing job, Ashleigh. I might have to investigate it more here.

Sorry for the delayed response! Nonetheless...

I haven't made mine YET. I only added the wire stems. lol. I will be making them within the next couple of weeks, though. I am not big on flowers, so I kinda want smaller bouquets. I have researched "how-to" instructions and videos from Pinterest, Youtube, etc. I ordered from the aforementioned Etsy shop because I think the shipping was cheaper than what it would've been if I'd used save-on-crafts.com. I'm not sure if I'll be using brooches or anything like that (though they are gorgeous), but I do plan on adding some type of "filler" (i.e. baby's breath).

@Ashleigh, your bouquets are absolutely beautiful!

@Tash, they look SO MUCH BETTER than silks. I love the ones I ordered. I bought all different shades of purple, so I'm excited to see how they turn out. :-)

Omg that is so pretty! My bouquet will be a real-touch bouquet, which is the same price as a real flower bouquet, but can be used more than once. And since I am having my bridal portraits done a month and a half before my wedding, I didn't want to have to pay for two bouquets.
