Welcome Sign at Church

Amanda, on January 18, 2026 at 7:42 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 3

I am currently planning the wedding signage. I was talking with my mom about it, and I said that we could have the welcome sign at the church and then move it to the reception location. That way, we would only need to order one. However, my mom said I should not have a welcome sign at the church and I should only have it at the reception venue. She said that a welcome sign at the church would be tacky because it is not a party venue. Any thoughts?

I wouldn't have it at the church because it's not a party venue and because it's not necessary there.

I don’t think it’s tacky at all as long as the sign is simple and respectful. Many couples place a small Welcome sign at the church entrance, especially if guests are arriving from different places or aren’t familiar with the location. If you are worried, you could keep the wording very minimal at the church and then move it to the reception later. Ultimately, it’s your wedding, and what matters most is that it feels right to you and fits the tone you want.
