I've received a couple of inquiries from people asking about a welcome reception the night before the wedding. We're planning a rehearsal lunch for the wedding party, but nothing after that. What is everyone else doing? We don't have the money to host anything else aside from the rehearsal and the wedding itself, but it sounds like people who are coming from far away want the chance to see us and talk to us before the wedding. What should I do - or what is typical? I was thinking maybe inviting people who are traveling from a distance to join us for lunch... any ideas?

I have been to one wedding with a welcome dinner/food. What it was, sandwiches and anti pasta was out and available to any guest staying at the hotel from about 5 to 7pm. That way anyone traveling could stop in grab a bite and see others who were there. It was not a formal thing but stated in the welcome bag. Unfortunately I arrived after the time but it was a nice gesture since most people had to travel to wedding.

On the other hand I have been to weddings were there is brunch the day after for everyone at the hotel or nearby.

I have yet to decide how I want to work it out, but I still have some time

I definitely don't think a brunch is something we can do, since it's a Sunday wedding and I think a lot of people might not stick around for Monday. I also made the mistake of getting discounted rates at 3 different hotels in the area instead of just sticking with one. That will mean our guests will be dispersed. Oops. Live and learn.

Thank goodness I read this bc I was also wondering about this. Doing a DW and didn't want to have to pay for another private event when the hotel is already all inclusive. I'm just going to tell people to meet us at the beach or something
