Welcome Party drinks q

AlClaire, on November 20, 2019 at 4:47 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8

Hello! I have a Q about our very casual Welcome Party the night before our wedding. We would like to spend more time with our OOT guests so we were planning to get a bunch of local pizzas and beers and just hang on the patio of the inn we're all staying at. I put the info on the website, not the formal invites, under the Schedule tab and just put - Please join us to kick off the weekend with pizza and beer on the patio of the inn on Friday night from 7-10p. Does that seem okay? It's decent pizza, but I'm a healthnut so no way I'm eating it ha! And I don't drink beer (and don't want to drink the night before anyhow), but most people like pizza and beer on a Friday night right?? Like, we don't have to do anything more formal, right? If that's not their jam, they'll eat beforehand or bring their own wine or something?? We're woefully unprepared for all the etiquette rules.

I think it’s great! Welcome parties can be such an unnecessary expense when in reality most OOT guest just want to settle in and hang out. This honestly sounds like an ideal get together!

I think that is totally fine! I'd double check with the inn that you can provide your own food/alcohol on their porch but other than that, it seems super nice to have a welcome party at all so I doubt people will be picky.

I think that sounds great. I agree that if people don't want pizza they will probably just eat before/after.

I think this is fine, as long as your hotel allows it. Personally, I'd go ahead and add a few bottles of wine and definitely some nonalcoholic options. Most people can make do with pizza, even if it's not their favorite. I might include a big salad and dessert, as well. Good luck!

Yes, NA drinks too for sure! We'll think on the wine/salad. I emailed the inn to ask if it would be allowed. I want it to be super informal meet & greet style, not like take away from their business. They are an inn, but also a wedding venue, so that was a good call to ask. I just want to hang out outside though- not a sit down dinner, decorate, etc.. Like jeans/shorts, flip flop style. Just more time with OOTers.
