Welcome party bags do's and don't

MAC2017, on February 13, 2017 at 7:38 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 23

We are having a destination wedding at an all inclusive sandals resort in Jamaica. So far we have welcome bags with embroidered logos, custom sun glasses and emergency hangover kits. We want to make custom pool side tumblers; thoughts? What's everyone's favorite welcome bag item?

I received an inflatable beach ball in a welcome basket that we tossed around in the hotel room at the end of the night. Could be a fun thing for your DW too. I'm really excited to include champagne gummy bears that I first saw at Starbucks. Candy/snacks are my favorite for welcome baskets and those seem perfect

Have you checked with resort first, as to what they provide guests as part of package?

How fun! Be careful with going overboard on the custom items though, I would just stick to plain items. Most guests won't use the customized/monogrammed items post wedding.

That being said, I think offering a sweet and salty snack is always good option. I've heard of people throwing flip-flops, mini alcohol bottles and shot glasses in there as well! Best of luck!

Yes we did, the resort doesn't offer guests much aside from your typical robe and slippers. I was weary about adding food being that it's an all inclusive resort. But we do love our snacks!

    Nothing. Honestly. Seriously.

I wear prescription sunglasses, I don't need a hangover kit, and why would need a custom tumbler, if it's an all-inclusive resort?

A chocolately snack (we found 'I do' hershey kisses on Oriental Trading), a salty snack (granola bar, pretzels, popcorn), advil, mints, water....

I'm getting married at Sandals in Jamaica as well in October. I think we are adding a shot glass, hangover kit, thank you note, itinerary, and possibly a beach theme bottle opener.

A couple things we had in addition were water, sunblock, personalized chapstick, deck of cards, sweets (including personalized m&ms and a UMD cookie cause we met there), snacks, and a fan. Also had a DW.

@dreamer people are paying over $3,000 per couple to attend my wedding, welcome bags aside from a private catamaran cruise are gifts for them.

"welcome bags with embroidered logos, custom sun glasses and emergency hangover kits. We want to make custom pool side tumblers; thoughts?"

Honestly, save yourself the trouble. I wouldn't want any of that.

And if you think you need to give a token gift, for the $3000 I would need to shell out to attend, you don't have to.

We flew cross-country, rented a car, hotels rooms for 3 nights, and spent over $5000 plus gift, for 4 family members to attend a wedding. We didn't keep their favors/gifts.

My favorite welcome bag item is ... nothing.

Water and snacks! An insert of fun things to do in the area (maybe the resort already has something you could leverage?) I haven't been to an all inclusive DW but just having that stuff in my room has been great when I've gotten them. I've also been to a lot of weddings where we haven't gotten welcome bags and been totally fine with that as well.

My cousin made a bunch of vinyl appliqués on her Cricket and adhered them onto canvas totes she bought on sales They just said "love is what brings us together" on them. Super useful!

Some welcome bag snacks I've gotten that were my favorite are shortbread cookies and a snack sized Pringles container. Make sure the snacks are a nice combination of sweet and savory.

Maybe a weekend itinerary or something? Let guests know what's going when and where they have to be. What time breakfast starts (and ends), etc.

Most hotels provide pens, but if not, that might be useful.

I still use the bag from my brother's dw ten years ago! They did bags, sunscreen, bug spray, chapstick, pool floats, snacks, Advil, and I can't remember what else. I don't think you need the sunscreen because everyone brings their own. I think it is a super nice way to thank people for coming!!!

I did a destination bachelorette and had welcome bags for my girls because I wanted to do something nice for them for coming and spending the money. They loved them!

Thanks for the advice! We went to a DW in st Lucia and we got cuzies, travel cups sunglasses, monogrammed tote bag which we still use and love & embroidered towels. Although the cups were cheap; broke which I understand because of travel and what not. At the end of the day the towels were a pain trying to figure out how to repack them to being back with the tote also. I am loving the snack idea I just wasn't sure if I should do food because it's an all inclusive room service everything Included. I loved getting a welcome bag I thought it was very thoughtful. All these suggestions gives me great ideas thanks again!

Currently our welcome bags are a beach bag with a towel, water bottle, hangover kit (medicine, sunscreen, bug spray, shout wipes, kleenex, and chapstick), inflatable noodles to use in the pool, inflatable flamingos that can be used to hold drinks on the sand or in the pool. Nothing says our name on it, the bag just references Cancun and the date. I wanted to do embroidered towels but the embroidery machine defeated me so I only got a couple done. After this thread I think I am going to get a deck of cards to include, since I know my friends would like them.
