Welcome Drinks

Christine, on December 2, 2014 at 11:56 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9

For anyone hosting welcome drinks or a party of some sort for out of town guests, how are you spreading the word? A paper invite, e-vite, word of mouth etc.

We're going to let ours be open for whomever wants to come that's in town the night before the wedding and we don't need a headcount per say, but we'll still want to get a rough estimate of who to expect.

Oh that sounds like a nice idea. Maybe you could send an e-vite or add an enclosure card in your invite with details about it. If not I think word of mouth is the way to go. Would you have a rehearsal dinner? Is so that could be your welcome, you'd save costs too.

We are inviting everyone to our rehearsal dinner and it is listed on the website, which the invite enclosure card will direct everyone too. Once we have their RSVP for the wedding we will most likely contact them directly to find out if they will be there in time to attend. We are only anticipating about 60 wedding guests though so it won't be too many phone calls/emails divided up amongst family.

I've been to a welcome drinks thing where we got a paper invite and RSVPed via email. That was probably the most formal wedding that I've been to...if yours isn't so formal, perhaps an evite or paperlesspost?

Kemmie: We're having a rehearsal dinner but just keeping that to the bridal party and our immediate family since 90% of our guests will be from out of town and it'd end up being a second reception lol. I'm thinking word of mouth or maybe just note on our website.

Lara: It's not super formal and I was actually just looking up some designs on paperless post! That could be a good option since most of those who'll most likely come are internet savvy and word of mouth those who aren't.

I am planning to do something like this for friends and will probably invite them by word of mouth. Most of the out of town guests that are family members are being invited to another event, so with just friends, it will be a small crowd.

We did a welcome bag, with a weekend program in it but also spread word via word of mouth. I would say about 1/3 of the people attending the wedding showed up at our late night pizza and beer party on Friday. It was a blast!! If anyone wanted anything other than beer or pizza they could order it but had to pay. It was a great opportunity to people to mingle and get to know each other and I loved having more time to see people. We had a long weekend wedding and every chance we had we tried to sit down and have quality moments with all of our guests.

I would list it on the website and also word of mouth.

Good idea NorthernMN, we could put a note about it in the welcome bags as well as a reminder along with the website. I agree, I like the idea of everyone being able to get together and get to know each other before the actual wedding.
