Welcome drinks and seating chart

Hillary, on July 1, 2025 at 12:25 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 4

HI Everyone!

We are doing a welcome drink before the ceremony and I thought about adding monogrammed drink tags to each glass. We are planning on doing a seating chart, although I am still thinking of ideas. I can't help to think should we just add table numbers and names to the tags and that be the welcome drink and seating chart? Or is it weird to do seating chart before the ceremony even starts? we are also doing a cocktail hour after ceremony so I don't want to d a drink seating chart during cocktail hour! Thanks for everyone's input! Happy planning!

Pre ceremony drinks and cocktail hour are when people are moving and the most social. Do not use seating charts for this time, only a dinner reception (if having). As guests will drink multiple drinks and the department of health does not allow reusable cups, skip the monogrammed glasses. Sorry. Maybe you can monogram their place settings instead as a take home gift. Place on plate.

Sorry for the confusion the seating chart is for dinner, and I thought about presenting the dinner seating chart on the welcome drinks as opposed to having the seating chart (for dinner) displayed during cocktail hour. I hope that makes sense!

Is there a reason you don't want to place the seating chart during cocktail hour? Perhaps escort cards are easier than a seating chart. You can display them next to your welcome drinks or during the cocktail hour by the reception entrance. Escort cards also make it easier on you to accommodate last minute changes. Honestly, guests forget their seats all the time, so either way they'll recheck a seating chart poster or their pocketed paper escort card one more time as they enter the reception.

Yes, i am considering just doing escort cards, or an acrylic seating chart during cocktail hour!. I really wanted something more interactive but we are serving alcohol during cocktail hour and don't want to do another drink! Thanks for the feedback!
