Welcome Bags vs Wedding Favors

Ella Marie, on May 22, 2018 at 12:12 PM Posted in Planning 0 14
So for our DW in Myrtle Beach we were considering one or the other! I think we’re leaning more towards welcome bags, but I wanted to see what you all thought.

For the bags, we just wanted to do simple stuff, Tylenol, water, snacks, Kleenex, chapstick..we wanted to hit up the 1.00 aisle at Walmart lol! We wanted to hand write little cardstock notes to stick in the bags. Our guest list is tiny 35 guests.

Wedding favors- since everyone will mostly be flying, we didn’t want to do anything big, and have everyone pack more things than they need too.

I would go with the welcome bags. It would be nice if you could add a few local specialty snacks (or just general snacks) to them as well!

I vote for the welcome bags. The items you list come in handy and would fit in the corner of a suitcase if they take them home.

I vote Welcome Bags. They are far more useful! You can also add Salt Water taffy or something native to Myrtle Beach.

    Depends on your budget
35 welcome bags it’s gonna be about $10 a bag.

I vote for the welcome bags too. Also, usually you only need to do one bag per couple so that will decrease the amount of bags you need. You just put 2 of each item in the bag for the couple. Amazon has great prices on bulk items. That is where I got most of my items for my welcome boxes.

That was actually another question I had. Do I do a welcome bag for every guest, or just for every room!?! I’ve heard people do both!

Hi There! DH got into a bags/favor frenzy right before our wedding so we did both. People LOVED! It was too a DW and I had 31 adults and 6 children.

On our welcome bags: hangover kit: Tylenol (amazon), hand sanitizer (christmas tree shop), band-aid (walmart), shout wipes (christmas tree shop), chapstick (from christmas tree shop, custom labels), sunscreen (travel size, custom), pringles (two small ones from walmart), chocolate ( brazilian one, mom brought from back home), mint (mini ones, from amazon) thank you note (template from Etsy).

Favors: flip flops (dollar tree, $1 ea), paper fans (amazon), sunglasses (found awesome ones on amazon, bought in bulk), glow int he dark toys (for children) & mini plam trees (believe it or not, everyone loooooved it! I used wine boxes to go with it so people were able to take it on the plane).

Although it is not a necessity, we decided to do it because we could afford and wanted to give something more to our traveling guests (some from overseas). I have nothing left besides about 5 pairs of flip-flops. If we were getting married locally I would probably have skipped welcome bags, and done edible favors, but since we were already offering a good variety of dessert, and I had given food on welcome bags we decided to make it more fun.

One per couple. I had two couples sharing a room for example, each couple got a welcome bag, with enough items for two people.

I bought simple paper bags at the Dollar Tree and added a ribbon and out thank you note as a tag.

I prefer welcome bags! We are doing both, but spending more on welcome bags. We found favors for under $1 each on Party City online.

Personally I think one per couple would be fine but make sure for things like chocolates, sunglasses, anything that they couldn't share or a food item I would put two in the bag one for each of them, but like a little Tylenol bottle, wipes, hand sanitizer, tissues- I would put one in each bag.

I'm doing both (only a 20 person guest list) be careful though it's easy to get carried away with the welcome bags lol. They add up very quick!

Love the Welcome bags! Do a local treat in them, and a map of the area with restaurants highlighted and it makes it even more personalized to your DW.

We're having our DW in Myrtle Beach in September! Where's your venue?

I vote Welcome Bags, too. Four ours, I email out requests for brochures from some local entertainment, shopping, and attraction spots, and plan on picking up some coupons for guests to use during their weekend. I also got some great advice on some local candy that would be nice to include. Wee R Sweetz is one; I think Riverside Sweets is the other.

Souvenirs for guests is a thoughtful way to thank the people who care so much for celebrating with you. Welcome bags are a marvelous idea for destination weddings, and for weddings with several out of town guests. Welcome bags can offer a lot of important information and some comforting items particularly when guests are not familiar with an area! We plan to have wedding favors at the close of the wedding to tie into the theme of the wedding, and encourage equivalent access of our favors for all of our guests. Whatever you choose, I am certain your guests will be thankful for the thoughtful gesture!
