Welcome bags (not for the beach)

Christy, on January 26, 2018 at 2:55 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 5

I am getting married in New Orleans and am looking for Welcome bag ideas. As of now, I plan on the weekend information, information about the city (I am getting from the visitors center when we get down there), and the hangover items (water, advil, Tylenol, ect.) but am looking for other ideas. How much really goes in there? We are having a welcome dinner and the wedding, so I am not looking to spend a ton. I thought about a few snacks (sweet and salty). Any other ideas? Everything I read is about a beach wedding.

Also, what is the way yall are getting the bags. People are not really telling me where they are staying and I don't have the time to call everyone and ask. Is it appropriate to have them at the welcome dinner for those that I do not know where they are staying?

Thanks,

Christy

    My welcome boxes included:

    - caramel popcorn

    - chili lime peanuts

    - cookies

    - granola bars

    - ponytail holders

    - chapstick

    - makeup remover wipes

    - 2 bottles of water

    - a hangover kit that included Advil, Emergen-C, Shout wipes, bandaids, mouthwash, mints and a granola bar.

The boxes were placed in each guest's room before arrival along with an itinerary, a card addressed specifically to that guest and a bottle of wine.

If everyone is staying at a different hotel, then I think your only option is to hand them out at your welcome dinner. We did welcome bags, but we had a room block and all our guests were in one hotel, so the bags were kept at the reception desk, and were given out to our guests as they checked into their rooms. Usually that's how I've received them as well, but if you have everyone staying at a different place, that obviously doesn't really work. And I think it would be ridiculous for you to have to drive around to a million different places distributing them, when you need to be focused on last-minute details.

Here's what we put in our bags, all the snacks were individually wrapped or snack-sized: 2 bottles of water, a few packets of advil, a bag of swedish fish, a pack of milanos (2 cookies per pack), a bag of potato chips, a few lifesaver breath mints, and a few assorted chocolates. We also had an itinerary card that gave people shuttle times for the welcome dinner and wedding, as well as informed them of the brunch the morning after the wedding.

I guess that I should include that there are about 90-100 guest traveling to New Orleans and that is why people are staying at different hotels.

Best thing I ever got in a welcome bag was a small pack of tissues. It's not something I ever think to bring but it's something I almost always need during the ceremony.

Definitely some bottled water or other drinks. a custom do not disturb door hanger for your wedding is a cute idea also. for snacks I would include a salty, a sweet, a candy and a gum/mint. the welcome bag is meant to be for both convenience and treat so try to think of things you want when you travel that you may forget to pack but also a few fun touches.

also something to signify NOLA would be cute. maybe a small pack of beignet mix from cafe du monde? prailenes are also a new orleans classic and would be easy to package in small amounts.
