Welcome bags for only OOT guests in our hotel block?

Heather Katrina, on July 31, 2017 at 3:22 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12

Hi all! I'm getting married in a few weeks, and have always loved the welcome bag idea. I would love to put a small, simple bag together, but not everyone will be staying in the same hotel/in a hotel. Is it okay to only provide welcome bags for OOT guests who are in our hotel block? Frankly, I don't have the time or energy to track down where others might have chosen to stay.

I think that would be fine. If they didn't book on time for the hotel block or chose to book with a different hotel, I personally wouldn't try to chase down where everyone is.

Unless you're deadset on this, I would skip it all together. If you plan to have the hotel hand these out as guest check in, they will charge you extra to provide this service.

Guests will pack what they need and the hotel should have basic necessities. As a fellow August bride, it's extra work that you don't need right now.

I guess I got lucky, but my hotel agreed to hand out bags as guests arrive for no extra charge. So for me, it's just figuring out if we can pack some bags ahead of time... I have been to weddings where we received them and it felt like a lovely gesture!

I did them only for my hotel block. There's a bunch of guests staying at another hotel but I saved myself the extra work and only provided for the block.

I would stick to your room block and check with your hotel about the fees involved (if any) and what they will allow. My friend's hotel would not allow alcohol in the welcome baskets.

Our Hilton will hand them to guests checking in for free. I'll only be doing it for the hotel block. There's another, cheaper hotel that shares a parking lot, it is listed on my website in case the block fills up, but I am not hunting down those guests to give them bags.

We have 2 hotels with blocks and will be giving guest bags to the front desk to pass out. Our hotel is not charging to pass them out. Anybody staying at another hotel, Airbnb, etc won't receive one because its too complicated to wrangle everybody's location.

It's fine to only provide them for your hotel block, but it's not okay to only give them to your OOT guests. You should either give them to everyone staying at the hotel or don't give them to anyone.

Absolutely, other hotels may not be able to give you info on guests staying there unless you have a block.

Thanks for all the feedback! I should have been more specific... I'm planning to provide welcome bags for anyone staying in the hotel, whether they flew in, or drove 30 minutes.
