Welcome bags for a (sort of) destination wedding?

Amanda, on June 16, 2019 at 10:08 AM Posted in Planning 0 6
Hi all. My fiancé and I are getting married at Smith Mountain Lake, VA where we spent our summer family vacations at. It is about 4.5 hours south of where we currently live and about a 10 hour drive for most of our family in New York. We are getting married on a long weekend (Veterans Day) so I was thinking of doing welcome bags for people who wanted to make a mini vacay out of it (since a lot of fam is traveling so far). We want to include some brochures and info of stuff to do in the area. We also will include some other welcome bag essentials like Advil, water, chips, (any other suggestions?) lol. What do you think of this idea? Is it a waste? Should I not even bother? Thanks!

I don't think it's necessary, ...but I also really like the idea, especially if you're giving them useful information about the area. We're going to do something similar, with local info, water, and a few snacks

I know, I feel like it’s extra. But if I can get stuff pretty cheap in bulk, I’ll use whatever is leftover. I just feel bad for those traveling so far - I want them to be able to do stuff!! Haha

It’s not necessary, but very nice for your guests. We did them and included bottled water, crackers, cookies, breakfast bars, candy, mints and chips. It’s nice for them to have a little something in their room to snack on. Adding local brochures is nice if people will have time to explore.

We are doing welcome bags. We are getting married about 1 hour from where we live but almost all our guests will be in our blocked hotel besides a few that live within 30 minutes. I'm making a personalized brochure with a wedding weekend schedule & some stuff to do nearby, I'll probably put in a local map too. We are going to do two water bottles, a 2 pack of advil, a mini pack of pepto, two local snacks, and possibly some other things (I was thinking either mini toothpaste, chapstick, a bag of wedding breakfast english tea, or shout wipes).

We are doing this too and our wedding is only 1.5 hours for most guests. Even though we are in New Jersey and most of the "local" brands are national, or regional (ex: Snyder's Pretzels, M&Ms), we are still putting them in with a map of where they came from! We also have a map of the local town with important places highlighted.

All this to say, I think your guests would really appreciate it. I think it is costing us less than $3/bag and is worth it IMO.
