Welcome Bag Content and Logistics

Ingrid, on May 17, 2019 at 8:45 PM Posted in Planning 0 10
We're doing a destination wedding in Jamaica and we would like to give out welcome bags to our guests, as a thank you and happy they've made the journey. We're flying from Ca, and plan on stopping in New Orleans to visit family and continuing on to Jamaica. We dont really want to bring extra luggage if possible. What are some things that you think should be in the welcome bags and how do I get it there without it becoming a lot more to carry? Keep in my mind I will be hand carrying my gown (I dont feel comfortable letting it out of my sight) and family will be traveling to join us a day or two after we arrive.

I plan on doing the same for my DW... and so far I think my best bet is keeping the welcome bags small and simple so that I don’t have to carry a lot... I plan on adding a non personalized luggage tag, a note from us thanking them, a small bubble bath bottle, some personalized sunglasses pepto and Advil lol... that’s it... I’ll honestly probably just skip the pepto/Advil.. I only have 50 guests attending so I think it’s doable..

When we were planning a DW, we were going to put these in the bags. You can get them pretty inexpensive if you buy a bunch of them and obviously they come deflated so they don’t take up much room. And people looooooove them haha

I wish I had a photo but we had a destination reception in Puerto Rico. Our guests stayed at various hotels on the strip. So we invited them to our suite for a drink & gave them their welcome bags.

We did mint green canvas bags that had a card printed with the local activities & reception details. Inside the bag were:

    Puerto Rican candies
    coconut water
    local brand soda can
local beer or sangria pouches (like capri sun)
    plantain chips
    water bottles
juice & gummy fruit for the 3 rooms with kids
    bug repellent bands
a hangover kit bag containing excedrin, bandaids, flavored condoms (for friends not fam lol), emergen-c, breath mints

i can’t remember what else but I researched bags for months. I think keeping it local makes it very fun!

Ohh we only brought the bags, hangover kit stuff, condoms, & cards with us from NYC. The rest we bought in Puerto Rico. We went 2x before the wedding and scouted out where to buy everything. There’s no way you can carry all of that.

We had 50 neon sunglasses we brought, those were the reception favors.

I love the idea of the hangover kit, also thank you cards and maybe a small gift card? Nothing outrageous, they could fit in your bag

Maybe you can purchase the items over there. Speak with your coordinator and maybe they can tell you where you can purchase some local things at an affordable rate. It would be nice to maybe have some local treats or items from the actual location. Things from here maybe you can do small items like pain killers, shower caps, small candies, travel sized lint rollers, etc. little items people would need and sometimes forget when they travel. Hope that helps!

I would maybe take everything you already need and then take the bags themselves. You could probably fill them with items once you get to Jamaica. They probably have shops where you can pick up things you would like to put in the bags.
