Weird tradition?

Futuremrsm, on February 18, 2020 at 8:34 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 11
So I'm attending a wedding next week and I had a question about a weird tradition that I heard.

Family said that all the aunts of the groom bought the bride lingerie. Like not a nice set for the wedding night, each person went out and just picked out random lingerie. This is apparently part of a tradition. I was told its tradition for the mother of the bride to buy the bride lingerie for her wedding night. Anyone find this really weird? I dont think I'd want my mom picking me out lingerie for my wedding night and making me open it in front of everyone at my bridal shower. Is this an actual tradition or is this family just weird?

Every family has their own traditions. Is this one of ours? No. Am I going to call another family weird for their traditions? Also no.

Oh wow. Definitely never heard of this tradition before. I would definitely find that extremely uncomfortable!

I've never heard of anything like this. I agree though, it would creep me out.

I haven't heard the aunts of the groom tradition, but I have heard the mother of the bride tradition (actually from my mother because my grandmother bought her her lingerie for the wedding night). She wanted us to go shopping for lingerie one day, but because we live in different cities, we never got the chance to. I'm getting married in 11 days and got a lot of lingerie from my girls at my bachelorette party so I'll just wear those.

I have been to showers where the bride has gotten lingerie from family, but it was more of a joke than anything serious. My family is kind of odd with a crazy sense of humor, so I half expect to get some lingerie from someone.

I’ve never heard of it but I also don’t think it’s tooooo weird because at my bridal shower I got tons of lingerie from my friends so I feel like lingerie is kind of a gift people give the bride

Usually people get together and do this but they are supposed to consider it I have had one and it's called a personal shower. I don't know why they would say the mother has to pick it out. I got really nice things nothing silly and my aunts or his were there

My mother seemed to have picked up on this tradition without telling me, when I pushed back on it, she bought it anyway... and produced it for me in front of our co-ed wedding shower.

    ...It didn't go down well.

I think lingerie is FAR too personal to buy for another person.
