Weird to pay in full early?

So I reached out to my DJ to get my account log in information, and he ended up calling me with a "crazy deal." Told me that if I were to pay my balance in full, I would save $600. Has anyone else encountered this, or have any feed back?

My wedding is in September. I knew right away what DJ I wanted as he is from the same town as me, has a super great reputation, did many friends weddings, and has been rated a top wedding DJ in Pittsburgh many years in a row. I booked him in October or November. He reached out to me around the holidays saying he would knock off a good bit (don’t remeber the exact) if I paid before the end of the year. Saved me some money so no regrets. I honestly wonder if they do it just to make things easier on their end and not have to keep billing for payments.

Sounds sketchy. Wouldn't matter to me if he did jobs for other people. There is something desperate and or unprofessional by asking for more money before the time originally agreed on. Sometimes people are nice but pros who value their services don't sell themselves or the industry short. 🤷‍♀️

I mean why didn't he offer this before when you formed a contract?

I had a similar thought. Also, a friend suggested that maybe he's looking to get some new equipment. Even though he was recommended to us, and we had personal experience with him, I researched the crap out of him. For good measure, I've been doing the same since I got the call. Still no negative anything. I'm feeling pretty good about it, and better with you sharing your experience! Thank you!

Maybe because I booked him two more gigs? And prob more to come with my company, they were happy with him. He also maybe a comment about feeling bad about what he charged me when I booked him for my work at a much different price. Obviously very different environment lol

I have the opportunity to do this with vendors, but they have never suggested it. I highly suggest not doing this. You can pay in full and they could easily run off with money, go bankrupt and business could go down tubes.

I don't know why you are asking for opinions then lol. It's a valid question to ask why he didn't offer this when you hired him to work at your wedding based on the info you gave. No one would know amy of this unless you included it. You suggest more possible reasons for giving you a break which don't seem as weird now but maybe it would be helpful next time to provide the whole picture. I read this and was like "wow, she hired this guy and he's asking for more money against the agreement.. run"

I did include everything at the beginning, I’ve been getting more information as the night went one, and with the additional opinions provided by this helpful group. If I couldn’t figure out how to update the post, or I would have. 🙃
also, still haven’t made a final decision. 🤷🏻‍♀️

This sounds so fishy. If he actually had a deal like that, he would have told you right away instead of just calling out of the blue. We can pay our vendors in full if we want to, but not going to do that just in case something happens.

Right so that’s my concern. I have had so many positive and negative views, I’m still so torn. It’s $600! I could do so much with an extra $600!

If you don't mind, how much is your original total payment? $600 is too big of a difference that it actually sounds desperate.

Originally DJ services for the wedding was $2000, and photobooth with unlimited prints $1000. He gave me a $200 break on the photobooth, bringing my total to $2800 for both services. Gave him $1000 deposit, balance is $1800, but I would only owe him $1250 if I pay now.

Total of $2250 for both DJ services and Photobooth.

The positive comments I've heard was maybe he wants new equipment, or maybe he wants to give me a discount from getting him 2 gigs from my employer. He actually told me "I feel bad considering what I charged you" when I got a quote for my work. That was a few months ago.

Last night I spent a ridiculous amount of time researching (for the second time now because I did it before we booked) looking for anything negative, and found nothing.

It just goes against what I assumed would be the safe way of going about this lol SO TORN!!!

He should definitely feel bad! Maybe it's just the area, but I think he charged you so much! Just make sure you do your research. At the end of the day, it will still be your decision. I wish you all the best! Hopefully everything works out!

I’m sure it’s the area. Should have seen some of the other quotes I got, for both a dj and photobooth... insane! THANK YOU!

I have always heard never to pay off in full, even if you have the money. My florist gave a deal for half being paid up front and I took advantage of this though
