Weird question... but who else would I ask :) FIRST DANCE!

*Mrs_D*, on May 8, 2014 at 1:05 PM Posted in Planning 0 14

So I am super dead set on having "I Choose You" by Sara Bareilles be our first dance song. Have you heard it before? If you have- help me out here.

It is not a traditional "slow song" really. It is not a "fast song" either, though. Maybe, you, too, have chosen a more fast paced first dance song... then you are also who I am looking for to answer this!

So here is my question- How in the HECK would you dance to this song? FH and I have slow danced to it, you know... just a basic sway back and forth slow dance. But I feel like there has to be a 3 or 4 step dance we could learn to make this cuter than that ... and look better (the fox trot? the waltz? I don't know- I am not a dancer Smiley winking). How do you typically dance to faster paced, yet still slow songs?

Yeah, just a strange question. But who else do I ask this to, ya know? Obvi WW Smiley smile

We took dance lessons from Arthur Murray and learned the fox trot. We didn't have a choreographed dance, just learned the basic steps and went with it.

So.much.fun. and the perfect date night.

You don't have to be awesome dancers, just willing to learn.

I have been thinking about that, Paris! Yeah, we are the same- just want to learn a basic step so we can look nice when we dance... no choreographed dance or anything like that for sure!

Thanks- we will definitely look into that. I am glad to hear it is worth it!

Hmm, not an easy one. My FH is a ballroom dance instructor. I'll see if he replies to me text :-)

By the way, we are doing a very non-traditional first dance song: Let's Never Stop Falling in Love by Pink Martini http://youtu.be/Ldxn6aq2GCc

Do you plan to take dance lessons?

I would call a dance studio and tell them what you're thinking and see what they suggest. That was one of the first questions our dance studio asked.

I should really start reading the other comments before I comment.

Well, that song is a Foxtrot, so you cant just dance anything (ie. waltz) to it Smiley winking If you want to stay within the beat you will have to build in moves from the foxtrot. Google it. Personally, if you guys usually just sway, try something simple like taking a step back from each other (while holding hands) and you turning. The foxtrot turns are a little different because it is a dance that moves you through the room (unlike a ChaCha), so youtube some videos and I am sure you can incorporate it in your dance. It will be fun Smiley smile I used to ballroom dance and miss it.

I love that song! Her acoustic version is a little slower, too. You've got time to play around with some basic steps. Good luck! Smiley laugh

I can't offer advice on how to dance to that song, but just wanted to say I LOVE that song - it's the song FH and I will walk down the aisle to! :-)

Future_Mrs_D, most couples we see for first dance have the same issue. But let me tell you, the guys always have fun during the lessons, even the ones that are dragged to the first one. I've seeing many FH that start very stressed out and at the end dance better than their FW :-)

By the way, you picked a beautiful song that (as Paris mentioned) can be dance to a foxtrot or cha cha or even argentine tango as it is a "4/4 slow song" (not my area so no comments). However, since you are beginners foxtrot may be better.

We took lessons & had a great time as well. We learned the Foxy. It's a hybrid of the fox trot & waltz (I think.) We moved across the whole floor, had turns, dips, etc.

We are taking dance lessons, our song is not a slow song either but not super fast either. They came up with a simple dance for us to move around the floor. It was chorographed but was very basic moves.

I am in love with this song! We had the same problem, so I'm using it for my entrance and we chose another song.

Try looking up some dance moves on YouTube.

That is the song I am actually walking/dancing down the aisle to! I love it!! I do see your problem. I want to do more than just walk down the aisle so I have been watching a lot of video's on youtube as well as talking to some friends who are in the dance business. I would think if you took some classes you could find something that the two of you could master and you will look amazing during your first dance!! Congratulations, best wishes and good luck!!
