Weight Loss After Ordering Dress

Suzie, on March 2, 2020 at 8:01 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 4

More of a panic and rant... I ordered my dress in September true to size, and have since lost 30 pounds, and counting (yay!). I plan on losing at least 30 more by our wedding day (hopefully), but am starting to panic about my dress. I asked my bridal consultant if there is a point where my dress can’t be altered, and she said anything over 35 pounds will make it difficult - not impossible but more difficult, esp since I have illusion sleeves. I do not want to stop after 5 more pounds, and feel that my health is ultimately more important, but I’m starting to panic that once my dress comes in they’re going to say it can’t be done. Or that it will be insanely expensive. Has anyone else lost significant weight after ordering their dress? Thanks for reading.

How tall are you? I lost about about 16 lbs after I ordered my dress. I’m short (5’) so 16 lbs looks more like I lost 25 lbs on my frame.

I did order my dress a size smaller than what I originally was when I bought the dress (super big gamble and they made me sign a contract that stated I promised to lose 10 lbs). When I got my dress in, it fit perfectly where I didn’t even need to lose any weight (funny enough, I was only 4 lbs lighter than my starting weight). I told them I still wanted to lose 10-15 lbs. she thought I was crazy with only 7 weeks until my wedding. My dress had super intricate lace and details that it could only be taken in once so she gave me 5 weeks to lose the additional weight I wanted to and give her 2 weeks for alterations. I ended up losing the additional 12 lbs in that time frame and having to have it taken in 7 inches. They were definitely able to do it, but it was definitely cutting the clock.
I think you’re lucky though In that it’s definitely easier to take in a dress than the opposite. Another bride was in the shop because she ordered her dress a size small as well and when she couldn’t fit in her dress (didn’t lose weight) and only had 4 weeks to lose 25 lbs. Smiley sad

I’m 5’3”, and am plus sized, so 30 pounds has brought me down two pant sizes so far. My dress has a lot of lace and detail as well, but you have def made me feel better knowing they were able to alter yours at least one time. That makes sense to me that they would give a set date and then that’s it. My other fear is that I will go from a plus size dress to a regular dress, and that will somehow make it even worse. My sister keeps saying this is a “good problem to have” and yes, I get it, but my anxiety is taking over! I just need my dress to come in already so I can see where I stand. Thanks for your response, it helps!

Oh snap girl! 2 pants sizes! Congrats! Honestly, if I were you and ended up losing another 30 lbs, I would just go in a bikini and call it a day! Hehe that’s so amazing that you’re committed to your health and feeling/looking better! 💕

Yeah, I know how it can be stressful since you don’t have the dress here yet to see what needs to be done to make sure it’ll work out, but just remember—you can always easily take off fabric (it may be a bit pricier), but it’s better than having to add fabric (which is probably just as pricey). So better to be in your situation! Plus, in the grand scheme of it, I’m sure you’d rather pay a little extra and look/feel your absolute best on your big day than try to save a few hundred dollars but look back on pics and thing “I should have lost 10 more pounds”, you know?
Trust me— I look back on my pics and go “I really should have worked out my arms and back.” 😂
