Wegmans Floral for Wildflowers?

Liz, on February 16, 2020 at 5:01 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 3

I'm having a lakeside wedding at a state park and I'm going for a "casual garden party" vibe. I'd really like to get wildflowers/local flowers as part of the decor!

It's going to be a fairly small wedding- 30 to 40 guests and no bridesmaids/groomsmen, so I'd only need 6 to 7 centerpieces plus my bouquet. I have been looking at some of the "average costs" for florists and it is shocking, but I'm already doing too much DIY and I don't want to add floral arrangements to the list.

Right now, I am inquiring at Wegmans in the hopes that I can save money compared to a typical florist. I have seen many threads here about Wegmans flowers but no mention of price. The florist wants me to give a budget before she gives me a quote. I understand that it's probably tacky to ask, but if anyone here has had Wegmans do their flowers- what did you pay for bouquets/centerpieces? I really don't want to insult her!

Here are some pictures of what I am going for (the first picture is something that I picked from a local farm last summer):

My grandmother works at Wegmans and we had considered using them when we were gonna fire our florist, but we were told they don't do centerpieces. They could have done our bouquets, but since they told us they don't centerpieces they weren't an option anymore. My guess is the reason she is asking is because she wants an idea of how much you are willing to spend on flowers. I know when we talked with florists we had to let them know what our budget was. We created a budget at the very beginning of planning so we told them the florist we were comfortable spend between $y - $z. If you haven't done so already, I would determine what you are comfortable spending then let her know. However, I would definitely confirm that they can do centerpieces because we were told they couldn't.

It's been a couple years, but my niece's Wegman's (Fingerlakes area of upstate NY) did centerpieces, as well as bouquets, boutonniere, etc. I don't know the cost, just that she found them much less expensive than florists she talked with. I agree with pp, that it's pretty typical they need some kind of a guideline. I think daughter's original budget capped all flowers at a max of $2000. However, one thing you could do is stop by your local Wegman's and see what they charge retail for their bouquets and arrangements in the store, then use that to come up with a total that you could live with that is at least based on what you know of their charges for ready made arrangements. Good luck!

Veronica- My Wegmans doesn't specifically do weddings because they don't do delivery/setup at venues. But they do floral arrangements for events, and I said "centerpiece bouquets" in the email and she seemed fine with that. I also mentioned that we already had vases and she was fine with that too, just wanted a picture and the dimensions.

The ready-made bouquets at that location cost $6-$8 for cheaper flowers like
carnations or chrysanthemums, and probably up to $20 for the nicer stuff like
lilies. I have never done a custom order but I was wondering is something like $30-$40 per bouquet would be reasonable? If the cost would be dramatically higher I know a local farm that charges $70 for 70-80 stems and I might consider that, but again, trying to avoid too much DIY.
