Wedit is ghosting...

Gen, on May 13, 2019 at 10:46 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 20
So originally, FH and I decided we didn’t have the budget for a videographer so we decided to rent cameras from Wedit ($325 to rent 5 cameras) and set them up on tripods to record our ceremony. Well, our coordinator has ended up being extremely difficult and refuses to help us set them up or take them down (friends and bridal party has offered to help, but it was just becoming such a hassle...) and we ended up having much more declines than we expected so we actually ended up being able to afford a real videographer which I was thrilled about.

Anyway, so I reached out to Wedit about 3 weeks ago about this. They have a 60-day no cancellation policy, and we were about 50 days out, but they said they sell out every weekend so I figured maybe they’d make an exception and refund us the $325. Thought it was worth a shot to get our money back though, if they didn’t, I figured we could find a use for the cameras.

Alright guys. So it’s been almost 3 weeks. I’ve called 4 times and sent 3 emails, and FH called once too. They will NOT get back to me. Like I said from the beginning, if they had gotten back to me with a simple “sorry we can’t refund you” I honestly would’ve understood and not cared much, and found a use for the cameras. But now that I know they are capable of literally GHOSTING me, I absolutely do not trust them with our wedding photos and videos! Beyond that, I’m terrified that let’s say they never even send the cameras and then accuse us of “losing them” or something. They have our credit card info, who knows what they could do...?

I’m so beyond distraught over this and I have 20 days before my wedding and I have no idea what to do or how to make these people answer my calls and emails.

Help Smiley sad

Did you sign an actual contract or did they just take your credit card?

Good point above. Maybe you can just cancel the card. Not ideal but if you're that worried, it's an option.

Exactly! If they just have your card I would just cancel the card and send a final email restating everything.

It's not really a "contract" since they just mail you the cameras and then you mail them back, but I have the order form that I did online.

Well we actually paid the $325 already a few months ago when we booked with them so I am not sure we will be able to get that back. But my mom did say we should call the credit card company to warn them in case Wedit starts billing us for additional things somehow...

Okay that's good then. I would just cancel the card so you don't get charged for anything else and then send a final email saying you tried to contact them x times on x, x, and x date regarding cancellation of services and you have not received a response. I would just reiterate that you no longer need their services. If they send you the cameras I would probably just send them back with a note that you had attempted x amount of times to cancel and you did not use or need the cameras.

I would just cut your loses with the $325 and protect yourself from being billed for anything else.

We have like hundreds of dollars worth of rewards earned on this credit card though so I really don't want to cancel it and lose those :/ Yeah that's what I will probably do if they send it. It is just beyond frustrating to me that this is something I have to worry about this close to my wedding. They were SO nice and responsive when we booked... it's maddening not being able to reach a person.

If you call the cc company they would probably just send you a replacement card so I don't think you would lose the points. It would just give you a new card number that they wouldn't have access to I think. Otherwise, I would just keep an eye on it and if you see anything come up, dispute the charge with your bank. You have email proof of you trying to contact them to cancel services so you shouldn't have any problem getting charges reversed if they tried to do so. I'm sorry you're dealing with this, that's so annoying they can't just reach out and acknowledge you even if they aren't going to refund you the original deposit.

Yeah that sucks. I think warning the card company is the best thing you can do if you're trying to avoid cancelling altogether. I'm sure it will work out fine in the end!

Oh you're probably right that they would just give a new card number! Sorry I'm all bride-brained hahaha.

And yeah it's just so obnoxious of them to just refuse to answer. I wouldn't even have cared if they would have just said "no" to refund it to begin with because we could've put the cameras to use anyway, but now there's no way I am trusting using those... for all I know, I could take tons of photos and videos and we'd never get them back!

Thanks! I am sure it will too, it's just so obnoxious, I can't believe a company would act this way and that I have to deal with it less than 3 weeks before my wedding -.-

I am often surprised by the lack of professionalism out there. It can be very frustrating!

No worries!! Yeah that's rude of them to just not answer and I totally agree with not trusting them with your photos. Definitely not a risk I would want to take! Hopefully it works out for you!

I'd just call the credit card company and tell them want Wedit frozen from your account. This lets you keep the account but it doesn't allow them to take any more money from you which eliminates that fear. If the cameras come, just find a use for them, if not then you know your credit card is still safe. Good luck!

Canceling the card isn't the way to go because you are still responsible for the cost even if they aren't replying to you. Since you contacted the the first time past their no feel cancellation period you are still responsible for the cost, even if they are being unprofessional now.

What you can do is contact your credit card company now and let them know the issue (lack of response) and if they don't arrive you can always file a chargeback if you don't receive the camera's.

Ditto this. Depending on your credit card company, they may be willing to refund the charges if you didn't get the services you were promised.

If they dont send the cameras you can dispute the charge with your credit card company. You put a deposit down for a service, so if that service doesn't happen you can dispute the charge and get the money back.
I know that's worst case scenario, but a good thing to keep in mind. Sorry you're going through this.

OMG you guys. I called my credit card company and the woman said she would dispute the charge because, as she said "merchants seem to miraculously reappear when you do that." Literally WITHIN 5 MINUTES of filing the disputed charge, Wedit emailed me back, claiming they've "been out of the office since early May and are just catching up." (But... they had no "out of office" auto-reply on their email, and their answering machine didn't say anything about them being out for an extended period of time...?)

So they said they could refund at least 50% of the order, unless our weekend is fully sold out and they can resell our package, in which case they will refund the whole thing. -.-
