So I feel like I have gone back and forth about looking into getting a wedding videographer because they are so expensive. I have found some options thought that may be doable in our budget. I am still a bit hesitant though because I am not sure if it will be worth the cost because we would have to move money from elsewhere potentially if we can't scrape up the extra. Wedding videos are beautiful but I worry that it would go unwatched and just gather dust. We have an amazing photographer booked and I know we will have plenty of pictures to capture our day. If you had a videographer do you watch your video ever and do you feel like it was worth the cost? If you skipped it do you feel like you regret that you did?

Either get an incredible videographer or get no videographer. A bad videographer isn't worth the money.

I love going back and watching old home movies, so for me, wedding videography was a must. Even if it wasn't feasible to have a professional videographer produce a slickly edited video of the day, I'd still come up with some way to have some sort of recording at the wedding, particularly the ceremony. I know I will want to revisit the day by re-watching the video in years to come. Recently watched my cousin's (amateur) wedding video from years ago and teared up a few times - can't say the same for pictures.

Maybe try finding someone that is a student or just starting off that is willing to do it for free? I'm not sure if that is as easy as it sounds but, it is a suggestion.

You could buy a recorder and get a family member do it and also set up and Instagram for your wedding that way all the pics everyone takes will be on there with a simple # for an example #codyandtaylor2017

    Also it save a lot

I only care about having the ceremony recorded, so we're just setting up a home camera to record it. If things go wrong though, I won't be too heartbroken.

I find most of the wedding compilation videos cheesy (and a lot are mostly comprised of still images). I just personally feel like photography can capture it just as well. That's why I cut the videographer and splurged on a photographer.

When it comes to a videographer there are definite perks and drawbacks. One of the main drawbacks is usually the cost. The perks are that you do capture more than a photo does. There is the movement, the sounds, and reactions. One spot where this can be important for some couples is the ceremony and the dances. During your first dance a videographer will be able to capture all the little moments. Like the way you smile at each other, laugh, and the expressions on your face when sharing that first moment on the dance floor. Another benefit is for relatives who are not able to make to your wedding. My grandparents are not able to travel so they won't be able to make it our wedding this August so we are definitely getting a videographer for that and to catch all the moments we miss because we will be busy doing other things.

When it comes to cost, find a videographer who is willing to work with you on creating a custom package. A lot of the websites you will see will have set packages that may seem way out of your price range. However, see if they would be willing to have a custom package. Maybe you just want the ceremony and the dances only, it doesn't hurt to see if they will work with you on the package and price.
