Wedding venue deposit

So aside from the deposit you put down to secure your date and whatever you owe to rent out the venue and stuff, does your venue require you to put down an additional deposit a few days before your wedding for them to basically use as collateral if something happens? Is this normal? I just want to...

Is this normal? I just want to make sure.

We have to put an additional $1,000 down as a security deposit on top of what we owed to the venue.

I know right. I just asked and gave some examples of what would include us not getting some money back. She said that if it was something small like a piece of trash lying around, they let that go, but if something spills, or we leave the trash cans overfilled, or anything above that, then there are fines. It's giving me anxiety already and It's a year away.

Our venue has a $500 security deposit. When we toured and spoke of pricing it wasn't mentioned. When they sent the contract it was on the last page.

Can you get out of it? I mean, spills are completely inevitable, there's literally no way to prevent that from happening. So I'd either just resign myself to the fact that I'm definitely not getting that $1000 back, or find a new venue.

Our venue has a fee and that fee is split into thirds - the first being our deposit, the second a month before the wedding, and the third two weeks before the wedding when our final head count is due.

Yeah, I'll look into it. I'm going to talk to them and tell them my concerns and go from there. This was actually our dream venue and I don't wanna give that up, but something like this coming up makes me feel like It's a sign. So I'll definitely talk to them and if we come to terms on something that's satisfactory I'll make sure to get it in writing, if not, I'll have to look elsewhere. Thank you!!

Ours had a deposit of half, and a $1,000 refundable damage deposit in addition. The damage deposit and the rest of the venue cost are due 30 days before the wedding. The damage deposit is returned (if there is no damage) 30 days after!

We did not, we did 25% - 25% and 50% payments. Our vendors were supposed to be insured (and had to hand in their COI) but we were not required to purchase any additional insurance.

I guess it depends on the venue.

I would check every single line of the contract to make sure you are will see your money again and the type of liability you will be responsible for.

Don;'t hang on to it - even if it is your wedding venue - if you are having a bad feeling about them. DH and I gave up our dream venue, and it was hard, but so worth it at the end, we still had headaches, but it would've been worse.

    Good luck~

Ours is 1000 down which is half for a damage deposit, and other deposit on facility rental. We pay the remaining balance 30 days before.
