Wedding Veil

I found the veil that I really like!! It’s cathedral style and looks great with my dress. But I think it’s a bit expensive. I know this varies but what is too much to spend on a veil?

Also, what have you spent on alterations for your gown?

I don’t think there is such a thing as “too much” to spend on a veil. It’s really just dependent on your personal budget and what you feel the veil is “worth” to you. For instance, I didn’t think I’d even wear a veil. I thought they were a waste of money. But then I ran across a bespoke veil maker on Instagram and fell in love with a design she made for me and ended up spending over $600 on my veil! Never in my wildest dreams did I ever imagine spending that much money on something I’d wear for less than an hour! But when I saw it , I knew I absolutely had to have it for my special day, and it was worth the money to me.

My veil I got off of Amazon and it was $20 also a cathedral length. I would never spend anything over $50 honestly since you’ll wear it for the ceremony and pictures but that being said it’s up to you and your budget.

On my first dress (that I didn’t wear and the seamstress kept) I spent $350 on alterations, the gown I’m wearing in 2 weeks I spent $80 on alterations because it only needed the bustle.

My seamstress made my veil for me as a gift. I wanted a simple, single tier, cathedral veil with a silver pencil edge that the salon wanted $300 for. I personally wasn’t willing to spend more than $100 for what I was looking for since it was so plain, so I was going to go veil-less if I couldn’t find it.

“Too expensive” is whatever you cannot reasonably not afford or have to go into debt to pay for (i.e. charging it on a credit card). If it is within your budget, and you love it, go for it!

My alterations were $460 to shorten the length, add a 3pt bustle, and convert a zipper to a corset. Mine were a bit more expensive though as my dress had a lot of intricate beadwork, so what you pay will also be entirely dependent on your dress, the alterations you need done, and the experience level of the seamstress.

My veil was $250. It wasn't a cathedral veil though. My alterations were $330.

Yes like all the other gals said it’s dependent on your budget. Sometimes bridal boutiques will offer a discount if you buy it off their rack. I bought mine off of the rack as they just got it in and I was the first bride to try it on. They offered a 10% discount so I ended up spending about $500. My alterations were $600 to take in my hem, sleeves, waist, back, and add a bustle. That also includes my veil and dress steamed.Wedding Veil 1

Oh damn what a STUNNING veil.

I agree with the others. 'Too much' is more than you can afford or than you think is worth the overall look of wearing a veil. For some that might be $20 and for others, $5000 or more.

I personally want a very 'round' veil - so not a long thin trailing veil but one that is more of a curtain that covers my whole body like so:

so, mine would be a double layer veil in a much broader piece of netting than some others, which could impact price, but on the other hand, I want raw edge, no decoration, which should be less costly. The ones I was looking at in stores cost about $500 but I'm expecting my seamstress to charge closer to about $200-300.

My veil was $35 from JJ's House (after finding a David's Bridal veil for $200, I found a similar one for much cheaper) and my alterations from David's Bridal were $466. $200 to hem it, $40 for cap sleeves, and the rest was the cost to bustle my gown (it had a lot of layers so it made it kind of costly)
