Wedding veil length for my dress? opinions?

Jackie, on April 17, 2015 at 10:44 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 33

Before I bombard you for your very much appreciated opinions, a little hello to everyone is called for since I'm a newbie Smiley smile so hello everyone!

I've been browsing around for a while but just started feeling like a real bride since I got "THE" dress Yayy!! The decision that I'm stuck on is veil length. I'm very torn on cathedral or fingertip length. When I ask my friends and family for an opinion, it's right down the middle. I'm hoping you can be the tie breaker based on my dress type, I've attached a photo (don't mind the clips it was my first time trying it on, I'm sure you all get it).

I've never in my life been so indecisive but these little details are driving me crazy! help please Smiley smile

Where is the wedding? If it is in a big church go long. If the church is smaller or outside, I would go short. I had elbow length because the back of my dress and long train is very detailed.

You bring up a great point that I've been going back and forth with. I'm getting married at the venue where the reception is held. I've considered if it's appropriate to go cathedral =/ I really like how longer veils can be photographed but I also don't want to go "over the top" because that's not me.

I've read that detailed backs call for elbow length unless it's a very sheer cathedral. I don't know if I would consider my train long either?

Your dress is so stunning and detailed! I might skip it altogether, or just do a birdcage veil. That dress is amazing and I wouldn't want to take away from it.

The back of your dress is beautiful. Whatever length you choose, make sure that your veil material is as sheer as you can get it so it doesn't obscure view of the back. As far as length goes, I'd go with fingertip if you're going for comfort (or want to emphasise your behind) or go with chapel if you want drama and if you won't be seated too much during the ceremony. I went to a friend's wedding and she was having so much trouble sitting and standing with her super long veil. She kept sitting on it or it'd get caught on the chair.

I say fingertip. I love the dramatic full bottom and the low cut back. So pretty!

Thanks so much everyone, I so appreciated the compliments Smiley smile When I tried on the cathedral I felt very overdone. I don't know if it's just because I'm use to wearing scrubs everyday rather than wedding dresses or if it was too much going on? On the flip side, am I thinking shorter to feel more myself?! Finger tip length is gorgeous and seems more comfortable for sure

I think fingertip would look great! The back of your dress is stunning! I got my veil from a shop on etsy, check out their veils, great quality and amazing prices. It is called Novia en perla! Hope this helps!

    Welcome and congratulations!

I love cathedral. Fingertip veils look unfinished and cheap to me for some reason.

I would go with a fingertip or elbow length. I love the skirt of your dress and it has some character. a cathedral, IMO, would take away from it.

I'd actually recommend a single tier ballet/waltz length veil. I also have a fit and flare gown and I love how the waltz length hits right at the back of my knees where my dress flares out. And you don't have to worry about it dragging on the ground! I attached of pic of me in my dress and veil for reference.

You look gorgeous! I really like that length a lot, I've been slacking on my research I didn't know there were this many options. I only have 1 pic and it's the fingertip length, i wish I had the other for comparison grrr

I say to the bottom of your butt, whatever technical length that is. I think will frame the bottom of your dress nicely and your silhouette.
