Wedding Transportation

Patricia, on April 22, 2021 at 5:01 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 5

Hi Ladies,

I need some guidance on transportation for the day off. We are getting ready at a hotel about 8 minutes away from our church. The reception is then 20 minutes away. We don't have many out of town guests so we didn't set aside room blocks (though now I'm wondering if I should) but we are recommending a hotel to stay at if necessary. I had not put much thought into transportation until now. I am wondering how much transportation I should be providing and from where to where. Since I am so close to the church then I was just going to have my dad drive us there or call an uber black. And after the church my fiance has a sporty car he wants to drive us to the reception in/ to the hotel after the reception. Then I figured our parents and the bridal party could carpool/ drive their own cars to the reception (is that rude?). Of note, our bridal party is small (2 groomsmen and 2 bridesmaids and no ring bearers/flower girls). Someone made a point that there will be drinking and I should provide transportation. However, if no one/ very few people are staying at a hotel then I'm not sure if a shuttle would help much. I'm not really sure how to provide transportation to our guests/ if it's necessary. Please let me know your thoughts!

Thank you!

Transportation is nice but not necessary. Since it doesn't seem you'll have many people staying at a hotel, I would skip the transportation for guests.

I agree with Hannah. Transportation is not necessary. People can Uber if they don't want to drive. I would however get a room black for your out of town guests. If I were a guest coming from out of town, and you recommended a hotel to me, I would expect there to be a block. You can do courtesy blocks for free.

We ended up going with Lyft events. We have a hotel block but not enough guests staying there for us to spend so much money on a shuttle bus.

Lyft or Uber has an events page where you can either a) pay for a % of the guest's ride (for example, you set to pay 20% or any % of your choosing) or b) pay for a certain amount of the ride (we set that we will pay for $20 per ride as our venue is pretty far away). Then you set up a special code and share that with your guests. The only catch is that you pay up front, and they return any money that wasn't used.

It came out SO much cheaper for us to do this route instead of a bus. All the shuttles had a 4-6 hour minimum and ranged from $800-1000 for a bus that we weren't even sure would be used.

Hi Patricia! Like Meghan & Hannah have said - transportation is nice but not necessary!!

And it would really only make sense if you were dropping your guests off at the same place at the end of the night!

Thank you Everyone for your comments! These were very helpful! We are working on getting a room block at our hotel for those that might need it and will be setting up a stipend thru Uber or Lyft.
