Wedding Timeline Help!

Maureen, on December 20, 2020 at 6:23 PM Posted in Planning 1 11

Hi everyone! So I'm working a bit on my wedding timeline (isn't until the end of May, fingers crossed it actually happens!) and would love some advice on my idea so far. Here's what I currently have:

7:30 - wake up and go to place we’re getting ready (either hotel/family's house)

8:15 - 8:30 - everyone arrives & has breakfast

9:00 - hair and makeup starts

12:00 - have lunch

1:30 - hair and makeup done

1:45 - arrive at venue in casual clothes

1:45 - 2:00 - finalize any venue details

2:00 - 2:30 - bridesmaids + MOB + bride get dressed

2:45 - photos with girls

3:00 - first look w/hubby

3:00 - 4:00 - couple + groomsmen + bridal party + parents photos

4:30 - guests start to arrive and get seated

5:00 - ceremony starts

5:30 - ceremony ends and everyone goes inside to start cocktail hour

5:30 - 5:45 - guests find seats

5:30 - 6:00 - photos with family

6:00 - everyone seated and bridal party/groomsmen enter

6:00 - at entrance we do a little dancing (common for my FH's culture for weddings)

6:30 - dinner is served and toasts

7:30 - cut cake

7:30 - 10:30 - free dance until reception ends

Just a note: I'm worried about my dress/bridesmaid dresses getting wrinkled so that's the reason we won't get dressed before we head to the venue. The venue has a small space to get ready but it isn't large enough to have all of us fully getting ready in one space (me, MOB, 5 bridesmaids + hair & makeup would make it too cramped I'm afraid!). I'm my own wedding planner lol so I would love to hear some input from all of you! Thanks so much in advance!

Get a small hand held steamer for the dresses from Target or Walmart.

What do you mean finalize venue details? I would delegate that task or do the day before because you will be busy and it is your day, leave that for a DOC if you can. To me it looks good but I would double check with your HMUA and Photographer just to check the timing.

Also make sure to have some padding between events since some things will run overtime unless you have an alarm set. Since you don't have a day-of coordinator, you can do one of two things at the reception (including cocktail hour): ask your photographer, caterer and dj to keep you on strict schedule for various events or just everything flow naturally. Most weddings fall into the second category.

When will you be greeting your guests post ceremony? Dismissing the rows or a receiving line?

Also you are going to be busy and not able to do day-of coordinator duties yourself. So anything of that nature is best given to someone else (who is not a guest). Thumbtack.com will have an inexpensive coordinator.

I'm basically leaving myself a little extra time to make sure everything is to my liking haha just in case someone came in behind me and moved something/ or something I delegated to someone else isn't perfect. I can just see myself having to take one last look at everything! We do have the venue the day beforehand and the entire day of as well so there's definitely plenty of time to make sure things are exact. And definitely will check with HMUA and Photographer! Thank you so much for your input!

Very true! I will definitely adjust to add a little wiggle room. Yeah, I think flowing naturally will likely be the better of the two options as I would like it to feel relaxed. And I actually haven't thought about post ceremony greeting, thank you for bringing that up I will definitely have to discuss w/photographer and future hubby.

Two of my BM's had handheld steamers and it was perfect! We had the ladies drop off all their dresses in Bridal suite the night before and we took turns sipping wine and steaming dresses. This way we did not have to do much aside from spot touch the next day. Honestly, we had a lot of down time to relax wedding day which we thought was odd but it worked out. Just plan on having lots of healthy and carb filled snacks available for everyone so no one gets light headed or too tipsy prior to ceremony and photos! Good luck and Happy Planning!
