Wedding Timeline, Do i need to reserve two time blocks?

Allisonkatbb, on July 22, 2019 at 3:49 PM Posted in Planning 0 4

So here is some information:

Our ceremony is taking place at a park trellis that I LOVE. It is 20 minutes from our reception location.

We originally thought we would have our reception from 6 to midnight. (Not sure if that is too long). That does not include the 2 hours set up and 1 hour take down.

The trellis can only be reserved during two specific time blocks or you can reserve both and have it all day, but that is obviously double the price. So if we want to save, we have the choice between 10-3 or 5-9:30. We can't set up beforehand and have to have it all cleaned up before the time block ends.

I'm trying to think of how I can make one of those work. Our wedding will be on a Friday so having a later ceremony wouldn't be the end of the world, it might be better for some guests. But I worry about having enough time to set up 50 chairs and then the PA system prior to the ceremony and not cutting things too close.

I don't know….hopefully all that information makes sense and someone can help me come up with an idea for what times to do what and whether I should pay double for both time blocks or not?

Can't afford it, it will have to be family/friends.

If you have a ton of people helping set up it'll be ok. For my ceremony it was just the wedding party and our friends and family there to help us set up. And it does get hectic doing it yourself but it ends up working out

5-9:30 option: Start setting up right at 5, have the ceremony at 6, then skip cocktail hour and go straight to dinner, as in ceremony done at 6:30 dinner at 7:30 ? Gives you 20 minutes travel and 40 minutes buffer. A few of your setup tear down people would have to stay and tear down (being late to dinner) or run back over to tear down after dinner at like 9. Big downside to this option is rushing to set up, and asking people to tear down while you and other guests are enjoying the reception

10-3 option: set up can start anytime before 1, ceremony at 1:30 done around 2, tear down right away. then you can have a longer cocktail hour and start dinner earlier. Big downside to this option is having a somewhat long time in between ceremony and dinner, but people have done it in the past, so you could make it work.

Is the reception venue only available from 6-11:30 or do you have it all day? You'll have to plan set up times there as well. Did you decide that you for sure want a first look or not? Will you want the ceremony space for pictures? If so, then you probably will want it all day
