Wedding this October

I'm slightly frustrated with my venue right now because we are keeping our original wedding date of 10/24/20 and it's looking like we are going to have to have it outside instead of in their hall, but they just told me I'm going to have to pay an additional 2,500 for the tent outdoors.. has anyone else encountered this? I'm already paying so much I feel like it's a little ridiculous for them to ask for another almost 3 grand for something out of my control.

Is having it outdoors your decision or theirs because of restrictions? If theirs, then the cost should be theirs in its entirety.

Outdoor tents are very expensive and labor intensive to set up. I understand both sides.

I agree with the previous poster. If it was your decision then I would understand why the cost would fall on you. But if you're being forced outside because of the venue, they should bear the cost. At least meet you half way. I'm sorry this is happening to you.

We were originally having it indoors but state guidelines currently are requiring gatherings of 25 or more outdoors so it is not our decision, I understand the venue probably feels the same but I am stuck because I have no idea how I'm going to afford this additional cost

Does your contract mention anything of a sort? If its outside you would think they would reimburse you some for the use of a crappy tent instead of a indoor atmosphere of which im sure is the reason you booked it. I would tell them no. or move the party somewhere else. Im playing it safe and having it in my backyard people come or they dont... and i have a crappy tent too but it only cost for chairs and tables included a few hundred bucks.. they should be providing it free of charge for the inconvenience

I would talk to your Banquet / Event manager and ask to come to some compromise. I’d also review the wording in your contract to ensure you wouldn’t be liable for the extra cost.

Do you have the option to just invite only 25 people? Unless the venue literally said "we will only host an outdoor event and can no longer accommodate an indoor event of any size," I think legally/technically the choice is yours. I understand it sucks, but you might be out of luck. Tents are expensive and are usually priced consistently by a venue, often in the contract.
