Wedding Themes

Angela, on August 26, 2019 at 10:09 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 9

Hey all!

Just wanted to see what everyone's thoughts are on "themed weddings."

For example, if you and your SO are into Halloween and have an October wedding - Halloween Themed Wedding. Or a "fairytale" wedding.

Reason I'm asking is because my fiance and I are into the idea of doing a 50s - 60s era theme. But how far do you go? Straight down to traditions, dresses, tuxes, music, etc? Or just decorations and music?

Thoughts and opinions is very much appreciated Smiley smile

TIA,

Angela

I think you take it as far as you'd like to see. I've seen people that throw "Gatsby" weddings and they've requested the guests to dress in the era of clothing and I've seen them just do the wedding party & decor in that era to allow them to stand out. You just have to figure out do you want everyone looking the part or do you want it to only be you, your FH and wedding party? I think either way is more that suitable, just be prepared for lots of questions of what you expect people to wear if you decide to request all guests to come in the same era of clothing. Love the idea though and I'm sure there are plenty of people that would love to relive those days. Smiley winking

A wedding should be about the 2 of you & reflect your personalities. I think go for it. My FH & I are into fishing/outdoors. We have incorporated some fishing stuff but we have not went "all out".

I think themed weddings are cute and unique! If you're comfortable with going all out, I say do it. Your guests may not me able (or willing) to play along in their attire, but I think you could make do with the décor and music Smiley smile

We are having a themed wedding. Our theme is 1930s hollywood glam. My dress, his tux, our colors, centerpieces, photo booth, and some music are all in keeping to the 1930s hollywood theme.

Sky’s the limit, you choose how far you want your theme to go. Mine’s a fairytale enchanted forest.

Themes are totally optional but fun! We're having a Mini Holiday theme because we're marrying in December. But you can literally have any theme you want!

I, like Yam, am also having a fairytale enchanted forest theme. We had library card save-the-dates, a bookplate invitation, library card place cards, and then tons of greenery/moss/ferns twinkle lights for the forest. The wedding is in a library. I told my wedding planner "a classy version of the rainforest cafe."

I have enough trouble picking out a new dress for weddings, so I wouldn't want to go to any wedding that was costume themed, but that's just my opinion. I think it's cool to have a theme in decor, music, the bridal party to fit the theme, but not require guests to dress up a certain way beyond formal attire or black tie affair. Even if saying it's optional, I am curious how many people would actually wear a costume to a wedding.

They're cute. Esp because you can base your decor around it.
