Wedding Table Cameras??

Are any of you using throw away cameras at your wedding tables? I think there are many pros and cons to this. I do think it would be neat to see the wedding "through the eyes of our guests". I have seen some that are very reasonable and cute, and they go on sale often. The other side of the debate...

I have seen some that are very reasonable and cute, and they go on sale often. The other side of the debate is what will we actually do with the pictures...its not as easy as having digital pictures...they would have to be developed, scanned, etc. I wonder if this would be fun for the guests, though? Just curious if any of you are doing or have done this or your opinions. Thanks!

I am putting a camera on each table for my reception. I found them for about $2.50, but in addition I am doing a photo scavenger hunt. I have a card on each table and the guests take about 20 different pictures to complete the checklist. Now you can get pictures of things you want to captured but that a photographer might not (My favorite is “5. Smokers banned outside” hehe). Check out The Wedding Bee for over 80 ideas http://www.weddingbee.com/2005/03/04/camera-scavenger-hunt/

PS. Make sure the cameras have flash, sometimes they are so cheap because they don’t.

We are using disposables just because it will be fun to let everyone take their own shots. We brought 10 800 speed with a flash for $19.99 we are just going to have them put on a CD.

Disposable cameras = disposable pictures in my opinion. I think you would do better with a photo sharing site if you want random pictures from guests and get much better results.

I work in a photo lab and have developed alot of those table top ameras. People always forget to turn on the flash and you end up with gray pictures. Plus the cost of developing is alot more than it used to be. And usually the manufacture of those 'wedding' cameras used recycled amera bodies taped together. Trust me they arr bad news, just pay like twenty bycks to get unlimited downloads on a photosharing site like flickr or somthing, and pass out the username and password, the photos will be much better if people use their own amera that they are accustomed too.

You can if you want to but I have been to two weddings in the last six months that both brides complained about getting all the cameras developed and no one even used them so they paid to get blanks :-( I think its a hit or miss sort of thing lol

@mark - Providing a pc at the reception sounds like a good idea, but it is rather problematic. I did this once. I even had a program on there that made the process dummy proof, but nobody used it. One lady said that she didn't want her vacation pictures to be copied and some ladies had bachelorette party photos on their camera from the previous night. For this to work, the PC really needs to be manned. If it is a laptop, you further need to be concerned with it walking away. I know you don't think of people stealing from you on your wedding day, but it has happened.

I think the best solution is something like photobucket, but I don't see that working all too well because people are pretty darned lazy (or busy).

We are doing the photo scavenger hunt too....but giving the cameras just to the kids at the reception. We only have about 6 kids and they are all in the 6-12 range so we thought it would be fun to get some pictures from their perspective. Some things we've asked them to take pics of: the best and worst dancers, the prettiest dress, their favorite person in the room, their favorite decoration, the people at their table making funny faces. Can't wait to see them!

I love the idea of the scavenger hunt im so using it , i think it will a great icebreaker for my family members who dont like each other to maybe all work together. I was already planning on doin the disp cameras. we are having a pro photographer but we liked the idea of having everyones point of view. im sure there will be some not so great ones but i feel that after all the wedding stuff is done and we go on w our lives our pics will be the only thing we have left for years to come so however u get them done i think spend the money on that.

I do love the scavenger hunt idea, although we arent having children so I am not sure if it would work with the adults. I am definitley leaning towards the photobucket idea.
