Another option (if you really wanted a first look) is to skip the veil or jewelry during the first look, and surprise him with those during the walk down the aisle. Are you planning to see each other at all the morning before the wedding before you're in your wedding attire? Or avoiding each other until the aisle?

Nothing at all against those who follow the tradition, as I know that is important to many people and can make for some beautiful memories, but I'm so glad my husband and I did a first look!
