Wedding start time

Brittney, on August 22, 2016 at 8:21 AM Posted in Planning 0 18

So we are having our ceremony on the beach and the reception at a banquet hall.. My question is how late is too late to do the ceremony? We had originally planned 4:00 but now were thinking anout making it later so that its a little cooler since its in June..

I would keep at 4... It can get colder by the beach... Are you having a tent?

The sun won't set until 8:30 on June 25 in our area. I schedule my beach weddings for 30-45 minutes before sunset. It is cooler, there is less chance of rain, the beach is less crowded, and the lighting is beautiful for photos.

My ceremony will be outdoors at 6pm two weeks before yours.. My reception, however, will be at the same venue just indoors so it can start right away. I don't see a problem with it starting later though, I think it'd be good.

You're having a beach wedding in Florida in June?? I don't think you need to worry about the start time so much as the time of year. Florida outdoor weddings should never be held in the months of June, July, or August in my opinion.

West coast of Florida resident here... If its on the west coast Id actually be more worried about doing it at 4 because of the afternoon thunderstorms. Id move it back to a later time.. itll be hot, but there will be a sea breeze too that people arent thinking of. I was on St Pete beach last month and the breeze was great. Its usually a little cooler on the beach than inland. In June sunset is super late so if you want a later shindog move it back!

@SailawaySomppi I was considering the sea breeze. It's still hotter than the hinges on the gates of hell in June. Push the ceremony as late as you can and make it as short as possible (as in 10-15 min max) and move people indoors.

Why such a long gap between the ceremony and the reception start time? How far away is the reception venue? You should go straight from ceremony to either cocktail hour or reception. If you want your ceremony at 4, cocktail hour should begin at 4:30 if it's in the same area. If it's a drive, start cocktail hour at 5. Cocktail hour should flow into reception.

15 minutes of talking translates to about 30+ minutes of being on the beach. Serving dinner at 6:30 is fine, but a two hour gap is not. And frankly, the difference in temp between 4:00 and 6:00 is minimal....

Its a 20 min drive from the ceremony to the reception.. We are now planning to start the ceremony at 5 with a planned 15 min ceremony and pics after.. Thats why we planned cocktail hour to start at 6 and dinner at 6:30.. Im not sure how long of a gap to have between the ceremony and reception bc of the drive time

We got married at 6:30 in July. I think if you back the time up a bit you are less likely to get interrupted on the beach and your photographer is more likely to catch the "golden hour" light that is so beautiful for pictures!

If it's a 20-minute drive and you want to start at 5 p.m., your schedule should probably look like this:

    5:00 -- ceremony

6:00 -- cocktail hour (you and your FH can take photos during cocktail hour; that's why it's there)

7:00 -- reception starts with your entrance

That gives you guys one hour and 45 minutes for photos after a 15-min ceremony. If your ceremony is truly over at 5:15, it gives your guests 45 minutes to walk to their car, drive (with traffic) and park for the cocktail hour.

I went to a wedding once in Clearwater, FL on the beach in June. It was very hot. The first time I've ever fainted. So Embarrassing.
