Wedding start and end time

Katie, on June 9, 2020 at 8:32 PM Posted in Planning 0 12
My fiance and I aren't sure what time we should start our wedding and what time we should end it. We originally was planning on having it go from 5 to 11, I figured since we are doing everything ceremony, pictures, cocktail hour and reception at the same location that a later start time would be fine. But my mother in law to be thinks it's way to late to start especially since we are having lawn games. So then I thought we would do it from 3 to 10 but my mom thinks 10 is to early to end. I don't want it to be earlier than 3 because a lot of people from my work are coming and I don't want them rushing around after work to get ready for my wedding. I'm so confused I don't know what to do with the time for my wedding.

I do think 3 seems a little early to start especially the awkward timing of dinner. 10 is not too early to end we are doing 4-10 for my wedding. A lot of guests with kids or older guests won’t stay that later anyway.

I think since its your wedding, you can end it whatever time you want. 3-10 sounds like a perfectly good time. Even 3-11 if you wanted to push out a little bit more.

We did 3–8 because it was a winter Sunday. People can eat at 4:30 and they’ll know that’s the dinner time based on your invitation. I do not think 10 is too early. A seven hour wedding is a good amount of time.

Many weddings start at 3pm, especially on Saturdays, so that's not a weird time.

3-11 sounds fine. That gives you plenty of time for the ceremony, take pictures before dinner, have your reception, etc. I wouldn't worry about it at all. People will do whatever it takes to get there, regardless of the day of the week.

I think either time is fine. My wedding is 5-11. I mean it’s a party, people usually expect to be out a little late.

My wedding is 4-9:30. We are getting married in the fall so I looked up the sunset time for our date to make sure we would still have sun for pictures outside and our ceremony. I think 3-10 is fine, definitely not too early to end a wedding.

I think 3 is an early start time, but 10 isn't too early to end, especially if you have an after party option. I also don't think 11 is too late if it's a Friday.

I really think starting at 5 is an okay time. I see your date is August, I’m not sure what city, but it’s light outside till 9 in many places and having it earlier in the day is not necessarily going to motivate people to play lawn games if it’s too hot.

I agree with this. Sunset is very late at this time of year.
