We did upbeat love songs (like oldies--think Marvin Gaye, Al Green, Stevie Wonder, etc.) and some more current hits (like Michael Buble, Jason Mraz, and Maroon 5) with a mix of genres (we had popular songs, some rock, some pop, some more jazzy, music from the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 00s) so that the songs were a good mix and more universal. That way we knew everyone would like them, and the last song was "our song."

I don't recommend doing this. Most people don't listen to CDs anymore because everything is digital. Also, not everyone has the same taste in music. You are either going to be stuck with a lot of them because people aren't going to take them or they are just going to throw them away. I went to a wedding that did this and ended up throwing it away.

@Kelly, this is not so! We did them and almost every guest took one; we only had like 4 leftover and my mom, dad, and husband ended up taking them to keep in their cars. Many have come to me after the wedding stating how much they loved the CD and it is still in their car because they enjoy listening to it, and how we picked some great songs. Every car that I've seen comes with a CD player in addition to Bluetooth or digital audio options, even my husband's brand new car. And it's super easy and fast to burn songs onto a computer and then transfer them to a phone or iPod. There are generally types of songs that most everyone enjoys, usually any songs that make someone feel nostalgic. There are actually a lot of songs like that out there.

ETA: What's better than a good mix to listen to when you're stuck in traffic? I don't know why being able to listen to a CD in your car would ever be a bad thing...

I like the thought behind the favor, but I would agree with Kelly. If I got a CD now, even if I wanted to play it, I would only be able to play it in the car. Most people I know don't have CD players anymore. Granted, if it's something you're set on- I would include the songs that you do the first dance to, the entrance song... basically songs that were meaningful to your event. Smiley smile

My FH and I have a pretty extensive collection of CDs but we buy them to compile on our ipod playlists, or to listen to in the car. If I'm being honest with you, I would take a CD favor to be nice, but I would either 1.) skip through the songs to see what is on it and then toss it, or 2.) toss it as soon as I I got home. Either way, I wouldn't use it. I recommend edible favors, or something really functional, like home-made soap (another WW user did this and her favors are my favorite yet).

You also have to be careful with the legalities of distributing music like this.

Also, we have a 2016 Honda Civic and it doesn't have a CD players. Honda's cars haven't had cd players since 2014.

I also think it's not a great idea. This was popular in the late 90s/early 2000s and even then no one liked it.

A friend of mine did this 10 years ago and people still talk about it and listen to it. I think it's a know your crowd situation. I'm 38 and still listen to CD's especially when I don't have cell or radio reception. A mix of upbeat and romantic would be perfect.

If cars don't have CD players then how do people listen to music? Forgive me. I guess I'm clueless. HaHa!

My mom and dad listen to their reception music on cassette off of a old school "boombox". They were married in 84.

I totally agree with @Kelly. I haven't wanted a favor since I was 10 years old and at a birthday party. I've taken many of them, just to be polite, and threw them out, as soon as I got home.

Now I don't even bother taking them, unless it's edible.
