Wedding signs needed?

Waldy, on June 5, 2019 at 10:36 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 20

I'm about a year and a half out, so I'm not trying to buy signs and decorations now, but I'd like to make a list of signs that may be needed or helpful. My FFIL and his brothers have woodworking experience and are going to help us DIY some signs and items. I want to get a list of possible signs I may need so I can let them know ahead of time so they can make it when they're free.

So far, my FFIL is going to make log discs for centerpieces and table numbers (like in photo), as well as escort card holders like these: https://www.target.com/p/12ct-kate-aspen-rustic-real-wood-place-card-photo-holder/-/A-16819792. One of his brothers has a tool where you upload the design to the computer, and it cuts it out of the wood. I want to see if he could make an 'unplugged' wedding sign and a 'pick a seat, not a side...' sign.

I was also planning on having a cards and gifts sign, as well as a guestbook sign (we want to do a polaroid guest book). What other signs might I need for the day?

Honestly we had zero signs at our wedding and had no issues. So I don’t think any signs are actually needed but it’s whatever you would want!

There’s not a single sign that’s actually a necessity. People know to put cards in the card box or sign the guest book without being instructed.

We're only having 3: Welcome sign, Escort card sign, and a Bar Menu sign. That's it!

We're only having three signs: welcome, guestbook, and cards/gifts.

    I decided on the following:

    Bar sign- sip sip hooray
Guestbook- sign snap it shake it sign it
    Kids table- cool kids
    Cards/gifts- thank you
    Smores sign- let's party S'more
    Welcome/parking

I also printed table numbers in the same copper foil font. I used Etsy for everything except for the welcome and parking sign. That will go on a big pallette at the entrance.

It's totally up to you. Look around on Pinterest and see what you like.

You could do a bar sign, if you're having any signature cocktails, or something out of the norm.

Signs are not needed. However, I like them, and we are doing a lot.

I have signs for the open bar "today's drinks are free, but tomorrow's stories are priceless", a memory board sign with our grandparents name, a welcome sign, a sign that says Booze <-- & I Do's -->, a sign for gifts & cards, dog treats, guest book, signature drink, and cupcake flavors.

The wood projects for the centerpieces and escort cards will be nice! But save your family the time and effort and skip the signs. I kinda laugh because all the pics of DIY signs are for things that guests already know how to do. Believe me, people don’t need signs to know how to put their cards inside of the card box, or to sign the guestbook that’s sitting right there with a pen. When they see a table of escort cards, guests know to look for their name and they don’t need to read a sign in order to do that.

However, the only sign that seems useful is at the bar if you and your FH are having a few specialty drinks for the night. Now THAT sign actually provides information that guests don’t readily know.

Hi, that centerpiece sample image you provided is VERY nice, did you know of anywhere that sells that or its components or was it homemade by your brother???

Hi Jason, that's just an image from Pinterest I'm using as a starting point. Unfortunately I don't know of anywhere that sells those. My future father in law recently cut down a tree in his backyard, so he has a bunch of scrap wood. I'm sure if you go to a landscaping company or tree removal company in your town, they might have scrap wood you can buy.

My future in-laws are SO excited to help. They have two boys, and my FMIL is happy to get a 'girly' daughter. My FH's brother got married last year, and his wife isn't very girly. I guess I don't really remember any signs at their wedding other than the unplugged ceremony sign.

We're not having a signature cocktail - we're only serving beer and wine. So maybe a sign with what beer and wine are available to order?

We want to do something like that for our guestbook too! I think it's more personal than just having signatures.

    I have these:
    Welcome sign
    Boba bar sign
    Grab a send off sign
    Candy buffet sign
    Card box sign
    Guest book sign
    Game table sign

It's a lot of signs that aren't hard for me to make but I've heard people usually disregard them anyway. However I don't think anything is wrong with just having them anyway

Thank you to everybody that responded! I was just worried because I'm part of a few wedding consignment groups, and there's SO MANY SIGNS for sale - I started to panic. But it seems like everybody is an adult and should be able to figure most things out. A sign listing the drinks is a good idea.

You bring up a good point about “not remembering“ any signs. I think that says it all. I noticed that having signs everywhere has become a decorative fad. But things like that are hardly remembered. And some of the ones I see have cheesy little statements or rhymes on them.

f they’re excited to help, then a sign at the bar is nice. But since they’re good with woodworking, (and if you want something memorable), then maybe they can create a beautifully unique arch or some other decor for the front of the ceremony. Or maybe even a fun wood wall backdrop decorated with flowers etc. for guests to use for pictures. That way it’s sure to be remembered, because it will be captured in many photos.

And having tons of signs also means you have to spend more money! we're having an intimate wedding, and we're trying to keep costs down. My FH is a wood florist, my cousin is a DJ, I'm wearing a jumpsuit instead of a dress. If I didn't remember any signs from a wedding, who would remember them from mine?

Thank you for your suggestions of woodwork! I think an arch might be a little much for our venue, but a wood backdrop for photos would probably be a hit!

Our colors are navy and orange and copper, so I got cute washi tape, fun sharpies and a cute orange camera. I think it's gonna turn out awesome and be something fun for guests to do.
