Wedding Shuttle Question

Lindsay, on October 15, 2021 at 9:39 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8

Hello,

I am considering transportation logistics for our guests. Our hotel and venue both allow parking overnight. Is it acceptable to only offer a shuttle from the venue back to the hotel at the end of the night instead of a round trip? We are looking for ways to keep costs down but still have a convenient experience for our guests.

Does your hotel have a shuttle that they'd be willing to do a trip to your venue before the ceremony and a trip back after the reception? That may help save on transportation costs. I wouldn't recommend doing just one way transportation, since people will still have to get back to the venue at some point the next day to pick up their cars.

Sadly, our hotel does not offer any kind of shuttle other than to and from the nearby airport!

I would either offer it round trip or not offer it at all. It isn't required and the logistics become awkward for guests if they have to figure it out for 1 way and not the other. Personally, I wouldn't leave my car overnight regardless because I would still have to figure out how to get there the next day, which would most likely mean paying an Uber the day of the wedding and then the following day. I would be more inclined to just not use it and make sure either my husband or I are sober enough to drive back at the end of the night.

Bummer! That would have made it easier. I agree with Hannah's comment, I would either provide transportation both ways, or not at all.

I don’t see the practicality of the shuttle in that case because they will have to arrange some way to get their cars back and not all places allow vehicles to stay overnight without being towed away, even if yours does. I would offer round trip shuttle only or let guests drive themselves.

We are doing a Lyft code. We couldn’t afford a shuttle and guest are scattered at 3 different hotels and many rented Airbnb’s. The Lyft code lets you set a budget.

Providing transportation is a nice to have, not a must have. If it’s out of budget it’s okay to skip it.

I actually have a different opinion than most PPs...I would certainly appreciate the one-way transportation because then I would have a free way to enjoy the evening and not worry about having a DD. Assuming for a moment that I would know other guests at the wedding, we could carpool there and have at least one car with which to pick up the car at the venue the next day. Of course, there's always Lyft, or we could always have a DD, but this would be an excellent option!!!

I would not use this one way shuttle. I don't like to leave my car places. Plus, day after the wedding you need to check out of your hotel...usually by 11am. We would normally sleep in a little, get breakfast, check out, get in the car and go home. Get home at a reasonable hour.

With this plan, we would have to figure out how to get back to the venue to get the car (either a cab, uber which costs money, or bother a friend or family member who is also trying to leave to drive us).
