Wedding Shoes - Heals or no? Grass Ceremony

Nicole, on June 21, 2019 at 8:00 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 15

I need opinions! Smiley heart I soo badly would love to wear heals with my dress (it's not altered yet)! My venue has areas where there's grass & areas where there's cement grounds. I will be walking down the isle on grass & cocktail hour will also be in the grass but dancing and reception will be on cement - are there's ways to prevent the heal from sinking into the grass or getting stuck & me falling flat on my face, lol? What have yall done in the past or are doing for your outdoor wedding?

There is a piece that you call heel protector I think that you can put on the heels so the shoes don't sink in. Look it up!

Like Kim said, there are heel protectors which are designed to prevent sinking. Otherwise, I’d suggest a block heel or wedges.

Yes to heel protectors! I’ll wear them for our garden ceremony & take them off afterwards for indoor reception. They are totally unnoticeable & you can get them on Amazon:

My wedding ceremony is also in grass so I opted out of heels. I can barely wear heels to begin with then adding grass just made it an easy no for me. Even with all the options of keeping the shoe from digging into the grass I just wanted to be safe then sorry. Especially in Upstate NY where I'm from with such unpredictable weather (we've had rain almost everyday since April). So I will be wearing silver open toed flats.

However, if you think that you could manage and that's your vision to wear heels with your dress then go for it!

There's also heels with wider bottoms. It's the the small pencil heels that are more likely to puncture grass.

My wedding will be on the beach. So I’m opting to go barefoot until we get to the pavilion where the reception is. Are you opposed to going barefoot?

You could do a block heel or wedges

I did a compromise and went with wedges. But i also found these clear plastic pieces you can put on the heel of your shoe to prevent it from going in the ground. Not sure how it looks on a shoe, but the idea is good.

I had a grass ceremony and was originally going to use an aisle runner but last minute we scrapped the idea. So instead, we just walked on grass. I had on flats but in looking at the video my briesmaids in heels walked fine

Definitely wear a heel protector I didn’t and I kept sinking in the grass so I finally end up taking my shoes off...🤦‍♀️

Stacked heels, or Cuban heels, those where the heal section is at least 1.5 inches rather than a spike, are the best. Often advertised as dancing shoes, with a thin ankle strap, and heels 3 inches or less high, they not only do not have a spike that goes into the ground, but the ankle strap make them stay more firmly on your foot, no flexibility at the ankle, so you are less likely to turn your ankle or catch your heel in grass tufts. Many come with a silky cloth outer surface you can dye to match or complement your gown. Think of professional dancers, or Flamenco and other dances requiring fancy footwork. If you have an Aisle outdoors that is 50' to 100' long, over grass, instead of a flimsy cloth runner that is used on a church carpet, you can rent a 4' or 6' wide carpet. It will stay in place and even off the surface for walking, better for pics, preserves the train or trailing veil from stains. After the ceremony, you bustle or use a wrist loop so your dress no longer drags. Then you can mosey around off the carpet. They are delivered on a wide large wheeled rolling cart like a hose cart, easily rolled out, rolled up again.

I'm wearing block heels. Never had a problem with these on grass and way more comfortable.
