Wedding restrictions November

Roni, on July 28, 2020 at 1:50 PM Posted in New York Planning 0 8
Ladies, my wedding is in November in NY and the restrictions are AS OF NOW limit of 50 guests, wear masks, and no dancing.
Things can change in the next 3 months but I can’t keep vendors waiting to see if we do need a DJ and MC since there may be no dancing.
This means I do not get my first dance with my groom, no father daughter dance, and no groom and mother dance. I am disappointed and discourage.... rather depressed now as I had to move my wedding from May to November and I don’t want to postpone a second time but this sucks! What can I do for the dances that are traditional to do?

It sounds like dancing is an important part of the day for you so I would postpone.
We’re in a similar boat, we were getting married this coming December but due to restrictions would have to halve our guest count, and have no mingling or dancing.
For us the restrictions meant our dream day would be nothing like what we anticipated and so we made the decision to postpone to December 2021. It’s a long way away but for us at least it meant we wouldn’t need to stress about planning or waiting for restrictions to ease.

The issue with postponing for a 2nd time is that we could only postpone to May 2021. And then I worry if things will be back to normal by then. We don’t want to keep postponing. We just want to be married that’s th most important thing.

I think you should have your first dance. You and your FS will be kissing and sleeping in the same bed, I challenge any public health official to explain why you two cannot dance.

Right? It’s a bunch of craziness. I talked to my venue about getting out of the contract since now we aren’t able to have our cocktail hour with our 8 stations, not able to dance and use the 3 hours we signed the contract to. They are only wanting to give us half our deposits back which is ludicrous. Going to challenge them on it to give us most excluding maybe $1000

I think when they say dancing they mean like no overt gathering of groups of people dancing. theres no reason u cant do a first dance u guys are gonna be next to each other day. thats not a health threat. even if theres no dance floor im sure theres room somewhere to do it!

I don't know if you have seen this resource yet or not, but I was recommended to use this as a guide when trying to figure out what to do with my October wedding that was postponed from May (totally get not wanting to postpone again!) This link says that first dance and family dances may be allowed, and site the COVID guidelines that NY has put forward already. I hope this helps you, it's been helpful for me to reference!
