Wedding Registry items... How many?

Wendy , on April 6, 2016 at 11:43 PM Posted in Planning 0 19

So I was reading the other post about your favorite items on your registry and that got me wondering, how many items do you have on your registry? I was trying to keep mine small but after going through every thing I now have 43 items. They are mainly bedding and bath towels (we desperately need new of each) and then a few other kitchen items. I'm not sure if that's considered a lot or not.

The lady at Bed Bath and Beyond said we needed something like 250 things. Weve lived together for a few years so we didnt register for nearly that much, mostly things we need to upgrade. I think it really depends on the couple. Some people may need more than others but I wouldnt register for stuff you dont want or need just to make sure your registry is large enough

Ok- see I felt like 43 was a lot. lol I guess not. We haven't lived together very long but we are both in our 40's (first marriage for both of us) and we don't really need a lot. We are planning on building a new house next year and I don't really want to acquire a lot of 'stuff' that I have no idea we'll need or want in the new house.

My FH and I have lived together for two years we have a home already and all the necessary items already so my registry also consists of bedding and bath towels and a towel warmer! Also some other cute things I saw like a new dinnerware set to match our newly painted kitchen. However, we do plan to move within the next year to the jersey shore where taxes are much cheaper! So I may need to reevaluate what is on my registry but I will do that as we get closer! I am stumped with what other stuff to add to!

I think 43 is a good number. How many guest do you have? I think if I was on a couple's registry site and saw over 100 items I'd feel like it'd be hard to understand their needs vs. wants items.

I think we had between 100-110 items over 3 registries. Pretty much everything is gone. We registered for all different price points and usually guests that bought off the registry bundles smaller price items into one gift. Our guest list was 185 and i was told by both Macy's and Bed Bath & Beyond that we should register for over 250 things. Yea, that didn't happen. I don't think if a couple has over 100 things, it's bad....especially if there different price points are covered. Now, if they have over 100 items and all of them are over $100, I'll probably side eye them.

We are expecting about 150 people. I think I have about 60 items on each registry. I have two registries. But a lot of it is small little items.

And to be perfectly honest, I kinda built my registry with my own purchasing in mind. If I get some of it, that's great. But it's a great way to put my wish list on paper so I can purchase it for myself. It's been great way to write down what I think I want in my home. In the past, I would remember what I want, but then forget about it and never purchase it! I'm super excited to purchase this stuff for myself!

I have like 150 items between both my registries. My FH and I don't live together so everything is from start, but I have been buying stuff over the years and keeping them in totes, so I have alot of stuff stored up anyways. I started collecting cause I know you don't get everything you put on registries. I think the smaller the registry the more likely you'll get most of your stuff

We have about 175 items between two registries (BBB and Amazon). With that being said, they count each bar code as a single item, even if you're requesting more than one. (Ex: our dinner ware comes as a 16-piece set (or 4 settings); we want 12 settings, so we asked for 3 - this counts as 3 separate items). A lot of our items are kitchen items and are small, like wooden spoons, spatulas, cake pans, etc.

I agree with PP about using this as my personal wish list. If someone chooses to get something off of our registry, we will be very grateful; if not, I have a list of the things I want to get myself in the future. :-)

Thanks ladies. We have 110 guests. I have sheets/bedding and bath towels as the main things on our registry but I also have a set of cookware (mine is 20 years old and FH has 'bits and pieces' of cookware) and I think I'd like to add some nice cutlery to it as well. I have a very small set of Cutco knives (my nephew was a rep for a short while) but again, FH's knives are awful.

Yeah the lady at bed bath and beyond said that with a guest list of 200, I need to have 500 items. I looked at her like she was from another planet waiting for a jk.

    Lol @ bridetobe

Oh and I had no idea toasters were so expensive!! $200-400 for a toaster?? Does it make the bread too? (I found a reasonable 4-slotted toaster for $70 but I still that's a bit much.)

We have about 130 people invited to the wedding and about 250 things on our registry. We figured that some people would buy multiple cheaper items (like kitchen gadgets or towels) and then some more expensive items for those wanting to just buy one thing. As long as you keep an eye on your registry and see how many items people are buying, then you should be fine. You can always add more items if everything has been purchased.

And I wouldn't worry if you think you have too much on there. Most stores, like Bed Bath and Beyond and Kohls, will give you a discount for items you purchase from your registry after your wedding. So even if you don't think people would buy it for you and you would want it later, I'd add it.

Most stores are going to recommend you have double the number of items as guests. This allows for shower gifts and wedding gifts without someone running into the issue of - oh crap there's nothing left on the registry, now what do I get- if they really want to give a gift, not cash. If you don't want/ need anything then keep it small and you'll probably get cash.

My registry is huge because I have lots of small items- I love to cook and bake and have a lot of small fun gadgets that I want but might not really buy myself. By small items I mean in the $2-15

We've also registered for upgrades and some bigger ticket items that I don't necessarily expect people to purchase but want to be able to use my completion discount for!

Also, like PPs have said, every barcode counts so we want 12 settings for our China and its actually cheaper to buy separately than in a set- so that's 12 plates, 12 salad plates, 12 cups, etc each counts as 12 items.

Macy's suggests having twice as many items on your registry as you have guests.

Try to include items in a variety of price points so guests can choose items that fit within their gift giving budget.

Also, you may want to register at more than one store or choose an online registry that covers multiple retailers. I registered at 2 different retailers. Some of my guests will not have access to one or the other of the retailers due to where they live, and some prefer to shop in "brick & mortar" settings vs. online. We duplicated some larger items (Kitchen aid mixer for example) at both retailers because it could be on sale at one, but not the other.

IMO, if you do not want/need a lot of "stuff" you do not need to have a large registry. If your registry is complete, or there isn't anything on it that your guest wants to buy, they will likely give you a monetary gift. Some guests won't even use the registry, they will choose a gift they think you will like instead.

I feel like I have too many items(96 for an invited 83 guests) but now that some things have been purchased I don't think I can easily reduce it. My shower is in a couple weeks, it is going to be very small, and even though a few things are on there as "I want to buy this for myself" I am kicking myself over it. I registered at Bed, Bath, and Beyond, but I wish we had done Target instead.

I think you have a small registry for the number of guests. Thats ok though! If you have things like towels and such, one person or family may buy you multiple things. If you don't add more, people will likely give you cash. If you want to add more... don't feel shy!

And I feel ya on the toaster!!! hahahah I had never actually bought my own here (I lived abroad for a while) so when I started looking for toasters online at BBB, Macy's, etc I was like WHAAATTT???? Some of them are so crazy expensive! I actually just got an amazing deal at Macy's. I got a $70 toaster for around $11.. wootwoot! Crazy sales plus registry completion discount!

43 is a small registry. Definitely add some nice knives! If you're having a shower I would suggest adding a little more. If you're not having a shower, you're probably fine just adding the knives.

I'm expecting about 170 guests including children. I'm having two showers (different states). I have 112 individual barcodes spread across two registries. But as others have stated, if I ask for 12 ice cream dishes, that counts as one barcode.
