Wedding Reception Menus?

Erin, on July 21, 2015 at 6:10 PM Posted in Planning 0 5

My FH and I have chosen to do a family style meal for our guests. With the family style the guests have courses; Course one: bread, soup, and salad Course two: a sorbet (to cleanse the palate) Course three: chicken, filet, and lasagna rolls Course four: (accompanying course three) roasted vegetables, mashed potatoes, and green beans. Course five: After dinner the guests will then have a dessert table for options as well as wedding cake slices. Now, since we will not be having plated service we will not ask the guests to choose their meal options beforehand. In saying all of this, should we design "reception menus" to place on the guest tables at each place setting? I think that if I were a guest at my wedding I would prefer to have a menu. What do you think?

We had a family style reception, and designed the menus. Keep in mind that it may be dark at various points in time due to dancing, spotlights, etc. so you need the font to be big and clear enough for people (especially the elderly) to see everything.

Because our menu was huge, we ended up doing it on legal-sized cardstock, and because it was so big, we did one per table. But I don't think it was ultimately necessary.

If you have the money and creativity to do menus, go for it! I'm not creative and don't want to pay someone to do it for me, so FH and I are not doing menus for our family style dinner. By the way, your food sounds so good!

We had a dinner buffet at my reception with menus at each place setting. The menus described the available dishes being served so guests wouldn't have to ask "what's this?" as they went through the line.

My mom designed the menus in Word and printed them off herself on her printer. I think she used 80# cardstock.

YUM! I think if its in your budget, its nice to include menus on the tables when guests haven't pre-chosen their meal. I'm kind of picky so I like knowing what I'm eating! This may also be good for people with allergies, they will know to avoid a certain sauce, for example. Menus are definitely something you could design on Word and have printed at your local Staples/Office Depot for pretty cheap.

If you have the time and budget I definitely would! All of the family style events I've been to they just had one per table and it was more than enough.
