Wedding postponed for 2 years. Flowers girls will be 9 y/o

Jennifer, on October 28, 2021 at 6:14 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8
Like tons of couples, my wedding was postponed due to COVID. It was to be on 10/10/20 and will now be on 11/11/22. My designated flowers girls will be 9 y/o and in 4th grade on our new, rescheduled date. Have my current flower girls outgrown their titles? I read on multiple websites and blogs that between 3 and 8 is the sweet spot for flower girls.

Its your wedding. If you want them there do it. Personally my flower girl will be 8 months old and will be pulled in a wagon by the 2 yr old ring bearer.

Technically, there can be no age limit because it's just a ceremonial/decorative role with no real function. But since they will be old enough to have their own opinions, I would wait until a couple months before your new wedding date and just ask them what they want to do. You could give them a couple options that you like and just let them choose.

It’s fine. 9 is too young to be a bridesmaid.

It’s ceremonial anyway, and it’s not like it was your fault.

My brother and my SIL had my 13 year old sister as their "flower girl"/jr bridesmaid. Theres also a huge trend now of having adults take these roles. I was just in a wedding last year where they had dogs and their owners fill the ring bearer and flower girl role. Literally just do whatever you want unless the child herself no longer wants to participate.

We were originally 10/10/20 as well (engaged 1/11/19). We postponed to 10/31/21 and I joke and remind FH that we’ve both celebrated 3 birthdays between the proposal and the wedding. It’s totally crazy 😖😜!!! But at 9 years old, she’ll be fine as a flower girl.

9 is old enough to have an opinion. Ask them if they'd like to still do it. If they say no, i'd offer to let them process like part of the bridal party and stand after your BM's or sit in the front row. IF they say yes, then cool.

9 is definitely not too old! My niece was our flower girl, she was 8 for our minimony and 9 for our big wedding. She was the cutest thing ever ❤️
