Wedding Playlist

Kelsie, on March 3, 2020 at 6:09 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 11
Hey guys! My wedding is June 14th (of this year), and I still don’t have a wedding playlist together. We have some essentials like the walking down the aisle song, the “presenting Bride and Groom” song, first dance, etc. But how many songs should we have for a reception?

Will you have a DJ? They should handle the reception music aside from spotlight dances and other special events.

This depends on a lot of things such as 1) how long your reception is 2) how much time you allotted for dancing

I’m thinking 3-4 hours for the reception! This might be a stupid question, but are people not supposed to be dancing the entire time? I’m really not sure how any of this works 😂😬

Usually people allot like 1-2 hours just for dancing because the first hour or more is purely people just sitting down and eat

But you definitely can have background music throughout the entire reception though

I would base it on the length of the reception and the other events then. Typically you’ll play background music for an hour during dinner, then you’ll have specific songs for spotlight dances and other events, then 2-2.5 hours or so for open dance floor. You don’t need a specific number of songs, the length matters more.

Gotcha! Our ceremony is at 2, so we’re not doing a dinner per say. It’s more appetizer foods like sliders and stuff. So basically I should get actual songs (for dancing) for 2-2.5 hours though? Maybe I could find some nice instrumentals for background music.

Gotcha! I’m still not sure how long our reception is going to be. Our ceremony is at 2, so maybe 2-2.5 hours should be enough for a reception? Since the ceremony is a little earlier in the day, we’re serving more appetizer foods instead of dinner

Don't think of how many songs you should have at the reception, just make sure that if you care if a song repeats that you have more than enough so that doesn't happen.

A girlfriend of mine did speakers and a spotify playlist (she pays premium so no commercials) and anytime she heard a song on the radio that she forgot she loved or fell in love with she would shazaam it and added it to her wedding playlist.

Shazaam is so helpful because if you are at a bar or restaurant (or anywhere for that matter) and here a song that you just love and it will save it to your playlist!
