Wedding planning during Covid-19

Kaylee, on March 20, 2020 at 11:43 AM Posted in Planning 1 8

I'm getting married in October and I am worried about scheduling vendors amidst all of this. I was supposed to go dress shopping today and tomorrow, but all the stores shut down until early April at the earliest. I know I can buy off the rack, but this whole thing has me so concerned. I already feel behind the game. I have booked a venue and photographer/videographer, but was going to be handling a lot of other things within the next couple of weeks. Should I go ahead and book other vendors or wait? I was going to send out save-the-dates, but now wonder if I should hold off. If so, when is too late to send those out?

I’m getting married in October too. We were suppose to fly to Houston this weekend to tour our venue, have a tasting, meet with our other vendors and everyone cancelled. So we ended up not going and I only have until April 3rd to get our deposit back and I have no idea what to do either. I know this is literally of no help, but just know you aren’t alone in feeling this way Smiley smile

Thanks for commenting, and I am so sorry your vendors cancelled too. I have felt so crazy with all of this, and it's good to know I am not alone. At least we can support each other during all of this!

Book your vendors....they are going to book quickly with all the brides needing to reschedule like myself.

I agree with the pp, many brides in March, April, and May might decide to postpone to the end of the year around September and beyond and you need to go head and get your date in with these vendors before they book up.

I’m having the same problem. Our date is in August but the government forced my job to close and now I have to source of income so all of my planning is being put on hold. We’ve booked all of our vendors except an officiant but I was supposed to order the invitations and everything and now I don’t have the money so I’m not sure whether to move it or cancel it or just hope that things get back to normal quickly. I hope you get everything figured out.

I’m October too and only have my venue and dj officially booked. I’m suppose to contract the person handling all of the decor tomorrow but I’ve been second guessing it. With all the brides rescheduling I would say book your vendors. I really believe that by October things will be just fine....

I'm an October bride and we're not putting down any more deposits until we have more info

Pandemics can come in waves. The grimmest conjecture I saw was 18 months with multiple waves. Shelter in place isn't feasible for the long term. Without a cure or treatment, we're not clear of the virus. Remember that social distancing merely slows the rate of infections, it doesn't get rid of them.
I am mentally preparing myself to scrap or postpone my original wedding plans. It messes with my head every single day.
Once the shelter in place orders are lifted, I imagine that people will be swarming bridal shops, public places, bars, etc to get rid of their cabin fever, creating more opportunity for the virus to spread. I read that if we successfully flatten the curve, we may peak in July/August.
If I were you, I would insist that the contract state you get most of your money back/can postpone without penalty if your wedding may pose a public health hazard or would be illegal. Most vendors have a force majeure clause that states the exact opposite.
David's Bridal has a lot of dresses that are in stock and ready to ship. They also have free shipping on returns.
    Good luck!
