Wedding Planner...out of budget?

What are the average costs of wedding planners and what are the true benefits of having them? I’ve researched them and besides maybe finding deals or price negotiation and helping you not go crazy they seem out of budget for my FH and I. I’ve researched them and besides maybe finding deals or price negotiation and helping you not go crazy they seem out of budget for my FH and I. Is anyone planning to have a coordinator or wedding planner present on the day of your actual wedding? That’s something I’ve looked into to help things run smoothly.

I would definitely have at least a day of coordinator. Before our last wedding plans fell through, we had found a full wedding planner for less than $2k. It just really depends on location. We found him through a site called Thumbtack. It's a super wonderful site. If anything give it a shot. You can find practically anything on there. Planner, DOC, vendors, etc.

    Good luck!

Our planner cost was $1,000. She's used her connections for our baker, DJ and and found our venue. Besides doing all of the set up and breakdown, she made our STD's, wedding favors, and will be doing our invitations. She let me know what to buy as far as decor for our specific look and I've shipped everything directly to her.

I also hired a day-of (month-of) coordinator even though our venue has an Event Coordinator for one major reason: the Event Coordinator works for the venue, our Coordinator works for us. I'm sure that the Event Coordinator will be helpful, but i wanted to know that we had someone there who was 100% on our side and advocating for what we want and need if something were to go wrong. Also, even though the venue's EC will help with things like timelines and vendor suggestions, I highly doubt she's going to make sure that my groom is ready on time, or that my hair doesn't look wonky from the back, etc. There are just things outside of what I would reasonably expect the venue to handle that I wanted to make sure were done. Plus getting my family to do things like take group photos is like trying to herd cats so the more professional help, the better.
